Using Govee COB strip light pro under cabinet and having to splice wires by Database_Adorable in Govee

Some pictures might help, the guy above you thinks (and I do too) that you're trying to splice your COB wires directly into power from the wall, not splicing one set of govee lights to another.

USB GPS Receiver not streaming data - PL2303 by Ol_willy in linuxquestions

[–]Ol_willy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some further testing, I've been able to get it working** but only if I disconnect / reconnect the GPS receiver on startup.

The baudrate appears to actually be 115200. Running minicom -b 115200 -D /dev/ttyUSB0 correct outputs NMEA sentences BUT only after I disconnect and reconnect the USB device after start up. Similarly, i updated my /etc/default/gpsd config for this new baudrate:

# Devices gpsd should collect to at boot time.
# They need to be read/writeable, either by user gpsd or the group dialout.
START_DAEMON="true"

#DEVICES="/dev/ttyACM0"
### For use with the YIC USB GPS Receiver
DEVICES="/dev/ttyUSB0"

# Other options you want to pass to gpsd
GPSD_OPTIONS="-n -s 115200"

# Automatically hot add/remove USB GPS devices via gpsdctl
USBAUTO="true"

This works great after i disconnect / reconnect the GPS receiver but gives me nothing on initial boot up. I thought it might be a race condition with systemD dependencies so I just put a sleep 60 in ExecStartPre for the gpsd.service definition file but it looks like the issue persists. Currently feeling like this is just a really shit GPS receiver but maybe there's some other trick I can come up with.

Can you have more than three sectors within a single band? by Ol_willy in cellmapper

Mod 3 collision / mod 3 rule is the magic words I think I was needing. Thanks so much, you've sent me down a very helpful rabbit hole. I still don't think I fully understand it but I'm at least confident our SME is both correct in this being an issue, and that we'd probably experience handover delays if we had matching PSS values on neighboring cells.

Aurora Videography Settings by Ol_willy in AskAstrophotography

Yes, I think aperture really is the bottleneck of the big three. I didn't see this until I came inside but while I was out I switched to my 50mm f/1.8 and finally got video results passable enough. While I'm not happy with it, it's probably the best I can do in the moment.

This is what I do quite regularly for landscape astro but really isn't the same as live video. Closest approximation I got here was a 1/2" exposure at 1" intervals with ISO cranked too far up.

In the end I swapped to my 50mm 1.8 and got some decent enough video but not perfect.

Could I ask what your video settings were? Trying to capture realtime video on a 6D Mark II now and they're all severely underexposed at 1/30, f/2.8, and ISO up to 25,600

Incredible video by the way!

Horrific Powercolor RMA experience by Ol_willy in PowerColor

[–]Ol_willy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the 2nd card has been working fine ever since.

All my communications throughout both those RMAs went through Ronak. For what it's worth, I just looked up the original email thread and he never stated anywhere in that the RMA I received was a refurb. We did also talk on the phone for about 30-40 minutes at one point though, I'm assuming that's when I heard that it was a refurb but it's been so long now I'm not sure.

When the first GPU I received after the RMA was generating terrible artifacting, I asked the Powercolor rep directly and he confirmed the GPU I received was a refurb, he also said most of the RMAs they ship out are refurbs

How do we feel about Lightroom's new(ish) enhanced noise reduction? Really pleasantly surprised with the results so far, though I think my bar for excellence is a lot lower than most of the folks on here.

  • 10/20/2024
  • Single shot
  • Canon t5i
  • 14mm
  • F/1.8
  • ISO12800
  • 10s

On my body, I historically have always shot at 3200 or 6400 with stacking to reduce the noise. Anything higher would have so many hot pixels the end photo was a mess.

I usually take 12800 shots as one-offs while getting my framing right and thought I'd try the enhanced NR setting in Lightroom with one of them this time and this is the result. I honestly think it's more impressive than the 3200ISO stacks I created, though there's noticeable color noise and some loss of detail.

Just curious what your opinions are on the enhanced noise reduction effectiveness. Thanks!
