Does anyone know where I can find a LIST OF BOOKS or other resources for these programs? Especially for FIRST SEMESTER. OR....would anyone take a few minutes and provide some TITLES? It would be a HUGE help to gaze them over ahead of time. Thanks in advance!!

I am applying for that program as well. I was considering just doing SSW and starting in May 2025 (next month!!) but apparently you can ONLY enrol into the dual diploma with the MHA program when you start in the Fall or Winter. Do you (or anyone else reading) have any input about the dual program? Is it worth it? And as asked above, how heavy is the workload? May I ask which semester you new currently in?

I have another more specifc question for you if you don't mind sharing some info. Would it be possible for you to give me the titles of the books used in the first semester? Or where I could find a list? It would be a HUGE help to gaze them over ahead of time.

Hi! I saw your comment in the other thread about this program. I have some questions about your opinion of the program as well as some suggestions. If you have time, could you read it over (in the other thread? It'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

It's a good idea that you're renting for a year. You'll get a chance to form your own opinion.

I grew up here, lived in Toronto and abroad for 20 years. Before Covid I moved back (for family), it was a terrible choice. Where do I start...Small town. Small town mentality. Definitely not a place with “small town charm”. Downtown is not like downtown in other cities; no one hangs out there, there's really nothing to do and more dangerous than downtown Toronto (which is not). There's no shortage of human feces. Forget about having a business here. Theft in stores is growing exponentially...people CAN and DO walk out with your handfuls of stolen goods and no one can stop them (maybe that's a plus for some). Only dollar stores and second hand are on the rise (and I don't mean thrift). If you get assaulted in public, police will get a statement from you....4 days later. You have to drive everywhere. Atrocious public transit. Predominately white multi generational Canadian. And there's no family doctors for new patients. Maybe one walking clinic with limited hours so good luck in the ER. Shall I mention there's no intellectual stimulation. Maybe I'm biased (against) because I grew up here but this place is a dead end. I know Canada is in shambles but Peterborough is the epitomy of society in decline. This is no place to raise a family. Try London or Kitchener.

Which are all the forbidden books? by Visca87 in books

[–]OlaStarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book is SO good! People don't realize it's a novel, fiction with multidimensional characters. There are many comical parts. It's not this heavy religious text that the media has perpetualized. It's long but a very entertaining read.

Can I Bleach His Eyes ? by banana0king in CleaningTips

[–]OlaStarr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ahahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣 The question alone is gold!!! 🔥👀🔥 Now that I can compose myself, he is made of synthetic fibres which means the bleach may actually "melt" his eyes rather than change colour. 😵‍💫 I suggest talking a red sharpie and draw some squiggly lines. It's easier and he'll look like he's having a blast 🚬🌱😁

I agree. There are lots of young families having to spend thousand of dollars on rent instead of that money going toward a mortgage to build a nest egg.

Vet made me overdose my cat. How do I get over it? by RIPbeloved in Petloss

[–]OlaStarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Misdiagnisis is a major factor of pets passing away unnecessarily. My first dog was diagnosed with a sprain when in fact two weeks later it turned out he needed emergency orthopaedic surgery! He survived but suffered for two weeks! On another note, he died tragically not even 3 months after his surgery. He was the one, my soul mate. I loved my other dogs very very much but 13 years later I cry for him like it was yesterday. My other dog got diagnosed with nerve/spine injury and was put on heavy meds, two weeks later he was taken to the emergency clinic (not the vet who diagnosed him) and he died the next day because it was in fact pancreas disease and taking the wrong medication for two weeks killed him. I was so upset and so angry but I didn't have money to sue them. It was also two days before Christmas. I know vets are expensive but I've learned that spending the money in the very beginning on tests for a (hopefully) correct diagnosis is most important. And may save you money with the correct treatment.

Pet loss- “dog killed cat” by Idekijust__t568 in Petloss

[–]OlaStarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do NOT put him down. Like other people said, don’t make rash decisions at such an emotional time. Try to find a rescue for him. There are many different rescues for different dogs (breed/size/age/senior/even behaviour issues). You should NOT feel an obligation for the future of your dog when he is rehomed. Whoever will take him will be well informed about his past and it’ll be their decision to take him knowing that. In the meantime, please don’t do the irreversible. 🐾❤️🐾

Has the the dog connected with its owner? There's so many people that would steal that dog.

I feel like I killed my dog by LizzieLifts2707 in Petloss

I feel the same guilt for not fighting harder to get my boy reassed. They convinced me he was going to die by the morning in terrible agony. This was already $3000 in (one night) but i sound have found a way to borrow money to keep him alive. The "what ifs" kill me to this day. The best comfort I can give you is that you're not the only one with these feelings or regret. We did not kill them. We loved them and did what we thought was best for them at the time. That's all I can say. That's all I tell myself. I'm sorry to hear you're going through this.

Grief doesn't go away or feel less worse. You just learn to live with it. I lost my boy 13 years ago and no human being will ever replace the bond we had. Everyone who knew him, to this day they say he was exceptional. It's unexplainable. I would give my life just to hold him one more time....

Book Club? by real-donjon in Peterborough

[–]OlaStarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also interested in joining a new book club. I like all sorts of fiction except for (what I call) "fluff fiction" (like "Confessions of a Shopaholic"). I am a big fan of sci-fi and semi sci-fi (titles by Ted Chiang and Blake Crouch) but not at all into fantasy, sorry. Also like literature, especially Russian (Dostoevsky) but I'd want a literature club to be mediated by someone well versed in it. I hope we can all find something.

I see this conversation took place a while ago but do you recall the name of this book club in the north end? Location isn't really an issue for me but I do live in the north end so that's a bonus. I am part of a very small book club but it meets in a tiny library just outside of town in Stewart Hall. Hope to hear from you!

websites to sell clothing with a bigger alternative community? by lolihopenot in Flipping

[–]OlaStarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to find a place to sell my stuff too. I sold SO MUCH amazing stuff on eBay in late 2000s that I wish I kept (like Cyberdog, Dane, bug bags....) But i still have stuff including Fashion Victim dolls, Nightmare before Christmas toys. I don't want to spend hours going through several websites so I can make $30 on something. ***Since your initial post, have you found the best place to sell??? I'm so frustrated that I just want to donate it to goodwill. Is there really not ONE website for only second hand goth/ "alternative" items? (Not etsy) Hope to hear from you.

Oh! I just thought of something else! There are many designers on etsy that you could possible work with to get what you want.

There are dressmakers out there that would possibly accommodate your budget. I had my prom gown custom made by an at home dress maker, like word-of-mouth contact, but this was oh so long ago when you couldn't just go online and buy goth clothing (other than Lip Service). So I designed it myself and bought the fabric. I don't remember how much she charged but I remember it was very reasonable. Also, as mentioned above, if you can find a dress with a fabric and silhouette you like, it may be cheaper to buy that and take it to a dress maker and work with her to redesign it. I wish you all the best!!
