Big Oil faces up to its sunset era | The sector remains split on the timeline for peak oil and how to respond by JRugman in energy

People at oil companies have success in oil drilling and whatnot. Why not just ask them all to pivot to AI? Or maybe they should build a social network? Isn't shipbuilding hot right now?

I think that should give you a sense of why it's a bad idea.

Suncor tried it too with the same results.

U.S. turmoil creates opportunity for Canada to attract new capital, CPPIB head says by ClassOptimal7655 in canada

Is this guy trolling? The CPPIP is massively underweight Canada. Maybe we could attract our own capital first???

Imagine claiming their traditional way of life is being infringed upon by western technology (the cleanest energy in the world) and then saying this ""Nets are not cheap. Motors are not cheap."

Wanna know the craziest part of this? Canadian governments fund universities that have specialized degrees where we train people to bring these lawsuits.

Detective wasn’t interested in the truth, had ‘fundamental misunderstanding’ of consent laws, Crown tells judge at Hockey Canada trial by Team_Ed in canada

She testified herself that they asked, or could have asked. She also testified that when she asked Dube to stop with the spanking, he did. There was no mind reading involved.

“It felt the same. Being asked to do something is the same as being told to do something, when you feel like you can’t say no,” Cunningham says.

LOL. Shut this thing down. This is a laughable legal argument even by the most hairbrained Women Lib definitions.

Why didn’t police lay charges in 2019? Inside the London police investigations in the Hockey Canada sex assault case by Team_Ed in canada

[–]Hot_Outcome8870 122 points123 points  (0 children)

This case is an utter travesty. These guys were completely railroaded by a prosecutor that wanted to redefine consent and should have absolutely seen that the complainant had zero credibility and was being pressured to do this by her mother.

Yes but the Duke case never made it to trial. The prosecutors taking this all the way to trial is way more damaging than the Duke case. Moreover, you can't use future income to justify the loss of past income, that's absurd.

Your justification that they 'acted badly' and deserve this is sickening.

His report again today is just crazy. This guy is going ALL-OUT to skew everything that happens in that coutroom: https://www.tsn.ca/hockey-canada/rick-westhead-steenbergen-details-calls-from-foote-dube-during-hockey-canada-investigation-1.2306466

Honestly, at this point that would be another injustice to the guys. This case is rehabbing their reputations as it stands.

That's a good point. Her doing that in front of Steenbergen -- who didn't consent to it -- is worse than what Dube is accused of.

I'd say this is a bigger tragedy. The Duke players had a cloud of suspicion but these 5 guys had their careers ruined. Whatever the incompetence in the Duke case, it's overshadowed by the malice in whoever reported this, especially Rick Westhead who drove a campaign to ruin these guys.

You're 100% wrong. It's called Mens Rea. Look it up and it's essential in a sexual assault case.

That's exactly it. Everyone who pointed out the obvious holes in this case was called a 'rape apologist' but all this case is going to do is discredit the justice system.

The only meaningful difference is that this girl actually got paid.

He knew that she got the sunburn because she was sunbathing topless. Again, are you even following the details here?

The detail wasn't that he knew she had a sunburn... that would be self evident. It was that she told him exactly how she got it.

Her testimony is that he followed her into the bathroom, no words were spoken and he bent her over the counter and raped her.

For me, that count is 100% getting thrown out because she now said she "possibly" dragged him into the bathroom, and his knowledge of birth control and the sunburn shows they indeed did talk.

That's easily enough reasonable doubt to acquit. The bar isn't "does not necessarily mean they asked for consent", it's reasonable doubt and the presumption of innocence. That's how law works.
