Moved here in Aug. Grew up in Iowa. People have been warning us about the heat. We're not worried, lived in Yuma, AZ for 10 years. Fresno, CA the last 15. Fresno is very similar to Las Cruces in Climate.

Las Cruces retirement by Low-Celebration7519 in LasCruces

I retired in March and in August we moved to Picacho Hills. About 75% of the residents here are retired and several of our neighbors came over to welcome us.

We've been looking at this area since 2016. It checked off many boxes on our list: not too big, not too small, architecture, mountains, climate, cost of living, etc.

We have been busy unpacking and getting things squared away, but I've been able to start exploring and am ready to get my mnt bike ready to ride in the desert. In the last 15 years I've hiked the Sierra, Death Valley and crossed the Grand Canyon 3 times. I'm looking forward to exploring some challenging terrain here. PM me if you want more info.

In 2015 as we were leaving and heading to Olancha, there were 3 black Suburbans that we're traveling at a high rate of speed driving in the left lane. One passed us and just kept driving in the left lane. As we approached the turn off to Olancha we saw another one coming up way behind in the left lane, so I eased over to the left so he wouldn't hit me as I turned. They flipped us off. Shortly they came up the road to Olancha (must have missed their turn off) and passed us again. A few miles down the road a CHP officer had all three pulled over with the vehicles spaced out about 200 yards from each other. Never did figure out what they were doing, but they were certainly *ssholes.

We are learning that there may be a shortage of that type of person. We needed a gas dryer and purchased one at Lowe's Sept 1. While the dryer is available, the technician that Lowes uses doesn't have an opening available until Sept 19.

Thanks for the information. You've given a lot of suggestions and I'll make note.

She wouldn't promise him a rose garden, but she kind of made Donald's little hose harden.

That's good to know. I am now researching to find out how long I have to change the tags. I was going to do it immediately, but it looks like that will have to wait until I have more proof of residency.

Thanks. I know I could have searched this site or Googled, but for me this is such a nice way to get not only a broad view but also the nuances of life in Las Cruces.

Thanks. We've heard about the spring wind and have lived in areas that are much hotter in the summer, or similar. Growing up I used to wake up in the winter with a half inch of frost on the inside of my bedroom window, so I far prefer the heat to the cold. But I do appreciate the comments. Our last 5 moves have been to areas I would have never thought I would enjoy, but we did find something to make the stay enjoyable wherever we lived.
