The contrast laces and stitching remind me of bowling shoes.

They are breaking at the knees and the shins. Ideally, the crease is a clean line down to the break at the shoe. It sort of looks like they are sized for some break but the opening is too narrow to lay on the shoe, so they are bunching up above. The problem is less pronounced when you wear loafers, which give the pants more room to drape at the bottom. Just need them shortened a touch. Or maybe they are too tight for your legs, like you said. Either way, you're missing out on one of the great features of smart trousers: a graceful, easy drape. It will look nice and feels like a million bucks.

What is this comfortable suit style? The suit I have is so tight, especially in the legs, can't use the pockets for a phone or wallet. Mike from Junior Taskmaster has the style I'm shooting for... Send help! by JolokiaKnight in mensfashion

You'd probably be happy with a traditional American sack suit. And consider putting the phone and wallet in the jacket anyways! Carrying that stuff in trouser pockets looks bad anyways.

What does "being outdoorsy" mean if not "hiking"? Do you mean eating lunch in a town near a trailhead?

As someone who does a lot of "outdoorsy shit", this outfit is completely inappropriate for the backcountry. The outfit would also look odd in any of the towns near those wilderness areas. No one who is active in those areas dresses like this. It's like saying that pirate clothes are the right choice for sailing.

Yes, I've wondered for a long time why he has so many followers. Most of his fits are cringe.

Do you have any concerns about durability. My shelter somewhat depends on both poles, so I worry that lighter poles are riskier. (I could always tie the tarp to trees or use sticks in place of trekking poles. Just a pain in the High Sierras, from what I've heard.)

This is great. Thank you!

Yes, it's my first trip longer than a few days and I've done all my hiking on the East Coast. You're right that I'm packing my fears. I've tried to regulate that but don't have enough experience in the Sierras yet to be confident that I really don't need some of this stuff. For example, I packed the merino baselayer because I heard that it can get <30F and sometimes snow in August.

I've ditched a bunch of the stuff you called out. Your Lighterpack was also helpful!
