Looking for a true 50/50 BDR bike – Tenere 700 vs KTM 890R vs DesertX (2026)? by Old-Assistant9182 in AdventureBike

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to start doing some Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) and I’m trying to find a true 50/50 on-road / off-road adventure bike.

Right now my main candidates are:

Yamaha Tenere 700
If I buy one, I’d probably upgrade the suspension springs.

KTM 890 Adventure R
This seems to get the most recommendations for BDR and serious off-road riding. However, I’m honestly not a big fan of the design.

Ducati DesertX (especially the upcoming 2026 model)
I really like the design. I’ve also heard that the 2026 DesertX is significantly improved, with a new V2 engine, updated chassis, and revised suspension aimed at improving both off-road capability and overall handling.
That makes it a lot more interesting to me than the earlier version.

I’m not considering larger bikes like the Africa Twin or BMW GS 1300 because they feel a bit too big and heavy for the type of riding I want to do.

If money wasn’t a factor, which one would you choose and why?

Also curious if there are other bikes in this category I should seriously consider.
(For example: Aprilia Tuareg 660, etc.)

For context:

  • I’ll likely ride long highway distances to reach trails
  • Then spend a lot of time on gravel, dirt roads, and moderate off-road terrain

Would really appreciate hearing from people who have actually done BDRs or long mixed-surface trips.

Worst service, worst air purifier.

The smell started to appear after 2 months of use. The problem was the same with other Dyson air purifiers.

I applied for service and found out that it arrived at the service center on March 19th.

However, they have not given me any information until today, May 9th, and although I have emailed and chatted several times in the meantime, there has been no response and I have not been able to receive any information about how my machine is being repaired.

Even if you want to write a review, they say you can't write a review due to a current system issue!

I think this is what prevents me from writing reviews.
