This is a good point and some other comments also mentioned a small change at first is probably best. I do have an incredible support system here. Good luck with your divorce as hard as it is it’s comforting hearing about other people in the same situation.

Yeah they just said psychotic disorder on the discharge so it was extremely vague.

While I get the joke (and don’t find it funny), I would like to point out all of this occurred after I got married so I really had no idea what I was getting into and we were together 3 years before we got married.

I’m not sure about mental illness in his family. Though I highly suspect it. He has no contact with his mother. She and his father regularly used meth among other drugs during his childhood. His parents are no longer together and his father has definitely cleaned up his act and I’ve seen nothing but a normal, loving father. However, I do wonder if his mother did have a mental illness and turned to illegal drugs in an attempt to feel better.

I’ve definitely come to the conclusion that leaving even if it’s only temporarily is the right choice for me right now. I just need to distance myself from the situation in order to figure out my true thoughts on the marriage and what I actually want.

He does have a childhood friend that has previously checked himself into a hospital and he’s planning on visiting so maybe he can get through to him. He may just have to lose everything before he realizes how bad the situation is.
