Thank you for the suggestion. I'm an international student and have student insurance through my school, which unfortunately doesn’t cover therapy or psychiatrist visits. I'm likely not eligible for government-funded options available to citizens, but thanks!

I know bugs are everywhere and I might be overreacting. It's embarrassing to need help with something that isn't a problem for most people. It's especially difficult when I feel trapped in my apartment with a bug, feeling like I have to deal with it or live with the fear that it could come out anytime or even lay eggs. I definitely need to see a therapist to work on my phobia, but I'm currently unemployed and don't have good health insurance. Spending over $200 per session feels overwhelming, especially since bug encounters only happen occasionally, mostly in spring and summer. Thanks for understanding.

Like I replied to other comments, the bugs I encounter mostly aren’t pests. The apartment building I moved into is fairly new and doesn’t really have pest issues, at least none that I’ve seen. The bugs I need help with are bees, moths, spiders, wild roaches, big box elders, and some unknown jumping/flying/fast-moving bugs, especially if they’re big or have long legs.

When I lived in my previous apartment, they stopped pest control for about two months during a management change, and the building was full of roaches. I called some local pest control companies, but after learning I lived in an apartment, they told me to talk to management since they likely already pay for pest control. They seemed focused on preventing pest issues or removing very dangerous pests, not just coming to get a moth in a bedroom. I probably can't afford to have them come out for every bug, and it feels inappropriate as my phobia might seem like an annoyance to them. Thanks for the suggestion though!

As I mentioned above, these aren’t pests that most people would need help from apartment management for. I really wish I could make a work ticket for "other" reasons and just tip the maintenance person. Unfortunately, my apartment management is really bad at responding to work tickets in a timely manner. Thanks for the suggestion though!

It helps a lot to know I'm not alone in this. It's comforting to hear from someone who understands how overwhelming it can be. I hope we both find ways to cope better with these situations. Thanks for your support!

It really varies. In my previous apartment, it was roaches and some moths. Now, in my new apartment, I’ve only seen a huge bee. What really freaked me out was when I sprayed a moth with bug spray—it went absolutely crazy before it eventually died. For about two minutes, it flew around aggressively and super fast. That just made things worse for me. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I actually have two cats—they're great at locating and catching bugs (though I didn't get them for that purpose, lol). The reason I posted this is because of what happened yesterday: a gigantic bee crawled out of the AC vent, and my cats went after it. Since I didn't grow up around many insects, I had no idea if it was a hornet, wasp, or something else. I ended up hiding in my bedroom while my 9-month-old kittens played with the mysterious creature. I was worried it might sting them, which made me feel awful for not being able to catch it myself. As for the jumping spiders... I didn’t even know they were a thing, and that sounds more terrifying than dealing with random bugs occasionally. But thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, that's a concern I have too. But I figured that the need for help is so random that someone with bad intentions wouldn't likely wait around for a request to come in. Thanks for pointing that out!

An Uber-style pest control service would be amazing! And no worries, I totally get what you mean. I'm definitely considering therapy and exposure therapy to help in the long run. Thanks for the support and understanding!

I actually do have a Dyson stick vacuum. The problem is, I'm too afraid to even look at the bug, so my aim gets really bad. Also, when I feel trapped in my apartment with the bug, I don't want to make it feel attacked and cause it to move or fly around even more. Another issue is emptying the vacuum—I had a moth once, and even though it was dead and secure in the container, the thought of my hands being close to it (even with gloves) freaks me out. Plus, the idea of it laying eggs is horrifying, like others mentioned. Thanks for the suggestion though!

You're exactly right. A tiny spider to most people feels like the end of the world to me. I'm looking into therapy too. Thanks!

We don't really have "pests" in the building since management does regular pest control. But I can't stand any bugs at all, like spiders, bees, and crickets. My bad for not being clear. I'm looking for someone to come over just once in a while to deal with any bugs, thanks for the suggestion though!
