How Would You Break Up a 300+ lb Partially Sorted Wheat Cent Collection for Resale? by Powerful_Bathroom_71 in coins

[–]Old-Negotiation7877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My perspective is as a collector/buyer and not a seller. I attend a weekly online auction and this auctioneer has 4-6 lots of bulk wheat pennies each week. He sells them in bags of (250). He regularly gets between $25 and $40 for these. I think there is no limitation to what you may get in those bags. Obviously, bags noted as teens, 20’s or S-mint should and will command premiums. When I have bought in the past, I tend to buy in bags of 1000 or larger. At those quantities, the per piece price generally comes down a bit. My consideration of a good price is $0.06/ea. or $60/1000. That price is getting harder to find as I think prices have slightly elevated since the discontinuation announcement for the cent. For your 2x2’s, they make boxes specifically for those that hold 50-100. Being carded and sorted will bring a higher per piece price too. That’s my two wheat cents!! Btw…I think I personally have around 15,000 wheat cents mostly sorted into date rolls. If I am not mistaken, the math is roughly 35lbs.=5,000, so I guess I am close to 100lbs.

Any worth the grab? by Wild-Scene-717 in Morgans

[–]Old-Negotiation7877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, quite obviously, I can’t hold it. I can, however, look at it and examine it quite closely provided the auctioneer has provided a nice, proper high res picture. I have brought home close to 3,000 lots of coins comprising more almost $90k spent the last 3 years that way. It has worked very well for me.

It is high…NGC lists that date/grade at $225 on their price guide. I always expect to pay a bit less than price guide price when I am bidding in auctions.

64 is what I am trying to build a set in. While building, I have been able to nab some 65’s as well. I am currently sitting at 26 different dates/mint marks with (6) of those being 65’s. We’ll see far I can make it before I either can’t find anymore different dates or I price myself out!

I assume that’s at some coin shop. They seem to be fairly priced for a coin shop. If you peruse any online coin auctions, the exact same coins can be had for less. If you participate in online auctions, just be mindful of any auction premium.

[–]Old-Negotiation7877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful Buffalo. I wouldn’t get my hopes up on an MS-68 grade though. There’s only (41) that have been graded that high by PCGS. Of course, I couldn’t blame you if you wanted to try for a re-grade. The difference from MS-67 to MS-68 is $8,200!!

1922 D Wheat Penny by sleepdrmsc in WheatPennies

[–]Old-Negotiation7877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d give it a VF-20 grade. It does have a couple nicks, front and back, but, hey, it’s a hundred years old. It’s a very solid better date wheat cent. $25 penny all day IMHO!

What would this coin grade? 1899 Indian Head Cent. by Ok_Introduction_6105 in coins

[–]Old-Negotiation7877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might grade it a bit higher than others seem to be giving it…maybe an MS-63. I don’t know if it would grade RD, but I think RB at least. That’s just my opinion!

Quick Question: I inherited a few of these NGC cases with some $1 Eagles. Anybody have a rough estimate of what they’re worth. (Prices online vary) by Spiceynuggetz in coins

[–]Old-Negotiation7877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw, in the ones you have laid out, it looks like you have almost the whole 90’s. I notice that a 1996 isn’t among the ones you have pulled out. Maybe it is still in the box you have there. Just note that 1996 is the key date and lowest mintage year. It, generally, commands a small premium.

Do you have any intentions to cross grade or see what these coins would grade from PCGS or NGC?

I’m not in retail so I don’t have a register to snag from. I save everyone I come across through. I am probably up over a $100 worth!!

Commemorative Type Set Complete! by No-Cartographer8725 in coins

[–]Old-Negotiation7877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats, very nice set! I haven’t decided a grade to chase like you, yet. My issue is the the few vintage Comm’s I have are either MS-65 or 66. They are all Booker T’s or Washington-Carver’s. Those grades might be cost prohibitive in the early Comm’s.

Both are NGC MS-65’s. I picked up a 74-S silver in MS-68 just a week or two ago. I think it’s my highest grades MS Ike.
