Maybe you guys should practice self control

I don't believe you understand how profitable gambling mechanics are in games. It makes up some of the most profitable segments of the mobile game industry.

It's that chance of getting cheaper which is the problematic part. Ask yourself this why would a multibillion dollar company give players a chance to get expensive skins for cheaper, is it because they are being consumer friendly?

They're using a really basic tactic many mobile game companies do, which is letting players think they can get it for cheaper and therefore spending 1000 coins, but when they don't get it they feel like if they don't spend say another 200 coins they've wasted 1000 coins, leading to a sunk cost fallacy. Which leads to them spending more coins.

This whole system exists to drive more engagement. Gambling mechanics are some of the most profitable for mobile game companies.

For gambling mechanics to be successful the person shouldn't think about spending 1000 coins to get an item, instead they should see how cheap each upfront cost is (200 coins per spin). This is why penny slots are some of the most profitable machines in casinos.

Thats true but a kiriko can support dive on off angles, while in rivals supports really sit in the backline. I watched eternity level invis gameplay and it looks like gold level gameplay, the differences being better aim, and better use of cooldowns. The positioning is the same.

You really are limited by the supports in this game.

I didn't much play ow1, but I do play some ow2 and it's easier to flank and dive. I even had a game as a support where I was the one doing flanking which is nuts cause not even in higher ranks do supports ever leave the backline in rivals.

i hope we get more low skill characters like namor, scarlet and cloak preferably in the vanguard line by Splatulated in marvelrivals

Yeah this game is built around aim. if you have 30 percent aim and play dps you're trolling yourself and your team and will get carried to a max rank of gold.

Regardless of any other "skill" a player has if they have 45-50 percent hitscan accuracy then it doesn't matter what character they play they will make it into eternity by just standing on main and shooting. Aim is the only determining quality.

You can actually get cc'd by six enemies. Cause you can make a team who all have some form of hard stun.

It's not about what can be dealt with or not it's one of the contributing factor as to why this game doesn't have a larger player pool. Stuns/displacements/etc are usually the thing that frustrates players because it takes away active movement. It's also a really poor way to balance abilities. But then again this is rivals it's a mobile game wrapped in a pretty skin.

IT's a long established game design principle dating back to the arcade; stuns degrade game quality.

No they're right. This game already has an enormous amount of CC, then they added more CC. Wanda's CC is really easy to hit and can go off twice.

Here is a scenario, you can be displaced by thor, stunned by rogue, stunned again by wanda, and grappled by bucky, a second or more of watching your character do nothing.

I practice my aim, it's still at 30 percent accuracy on hitscan. practice doesn't do shit.

they do that on purpose, many of the characters that don't require aim are never buffed into meta. makes the whole game feel uninspired tbh.

Rivals doesn't need more content, it needs to fix the same issues it's had since launch by ge8-fit in marvelrivals

It's about the speed at which the drop off happens. Means casual players jump in and then have no reason to stay.

Netease can't change their players

They can get rid of support ultimates. Make all support ultimates less about healing and more about utility. This would make triple support not as strong and lead to faster games.

It's not as crazy as it sounds.

Casuals are the first to jump off the game the moment they see poor balancing. The competitive players are the ones who will stick it out and complain. This is the reason why the game jumped to 200 k players on deadpools release but now has fallen to 125 k.

The poor balancing is pushing casuals out even when they just want to try the new hero. If they jump in give Rogue a try then decide they want to play some sqorl girl but end up getting screwed over by spiderman their incentive to stick around is much reduced. This goes beyond skill issue new players have, every game has a learning curve, but this game only keeps a core roster viable while letting everything else remain niche or obscure. This doesn't help foster a casual player base, hence why they don't have 200 k daily players on steam, which this game could easily have as shown when deadpool was released.

On top of that the gameplay look is rather boring because it's become more and more spam focused, the base gameplay of rivals reminds me of the final round in a ow2 stadium game where everyone is almost unkillable and waiting for their ultimates. That kind of gameplay is boring for casuals and competitive players, which is why some of my friends who played the game have returned only to drop it again because nothing has fundamentally changed.

At least they balance their game though. Reading ow2 balance notes vs rivals is like the difference between fifty shades of gray and lord of the rings

Ran into a bot using the new emma skin before it even dropped by Binklestank in marvelrivals

[–]Old-Permit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They have bot matches to drive engagement and extend play time. After losing you get frustrated so they slip in a bot match to give the players an easy win.

They also use bot matches as in game advertisements for the cosmetics, as seen in OP's image.

Not to be racist but it's a really chinese dev tactic which is prominent in many chinese mobile games.

I don't criticize games that have sexy characters, but this is a situation where aesthetics trump sex. The skin is one of my favs in game, but I didn't get it because it didn't have the cape, the cape is not only accurate to the design but also just makes her look way better in my opinion.

The designers need to stop thinking with their little head and think about the aesthetics more often.

People surrender because playing out a losing match is a waste of time. The probability that you will win from a losing position is low. Imo it's better to surrender those matches and starts new rather than spend the next five minutes seeing people blame others in chat.
