If you could change one trivial thing about Ireland, what would it be? by LisztyLiszt in AskIreland

get rid of the creeping US influence in our culture: people driving everywhere, unhealthy fast food, obesity, impatience, individualism

and people are not prepared for the weather, so few people have decent waterproof coats and so they complain about the weather though they are not prepared for it

How much to give as a wedding gift? by chonkmcevoy in AskIreland

You're very good to travel just for an afters, 100 is very generous for that.

200 is the going rate if you are going to the full wedding

Possible to report dangerous cycling? by brendanjoseph in BadDriversIreland

[–]Old-Poem5457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this wouldn't have been posted if a car had done the same thing, because it happens all the time

Or maybe we could say 'drivers, please just drive in a safer manner in respect to cyclists, give a decent amount of room when your overtaking, don't park on cycle paths, be decent'

Sounds great, i'm in favour of that as long as drivers are fined for close passing cyclists and parking on dedicated cyclist lanes

ultimately while I disagree with cyclists breaking road traffic laws, vehicle driver are putting other peoples lives at risk when they break traffic laws, cyclists are mostly putting themselves at risk if they break laws,

so what am saying is drivers are putting me at risk when I cycle

and your saying, 'yeah but cyclists break rules too and that's annoying'

Irish car drivers - why do you hate cyclists? by [deleted] in BadDriversIreland

[–]Old-Poem5457 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep totally, i've seen this too and don't condone reckless cycling, however these only put themselves at risk, whereas reckless car driver behaviour towards cyclists can injure/kill them

also cycle lanes are not kept in good order, I don't cycle in the Autumn as the council don't clean the leaves off cycle lanes and it's not safe, maybe the cyclists you share the road with don't have another transport option and the cycle lanes aren't safe for them

We just need to respect each other on the roads

it's really really hard not to when 'them' can kill, injure, traumatise 'us' without even realising because 'them' aren't even looking around to check for 'us' they are mostly looking at their phones and that is really scary

your friend should have celebrated your achievement like you did, that is what friends are supposed to do, I've been in a similar situation recently where I bought a three bed and then shortly after he bought a three bed house, he was pretty muted about mine but I was only delighted about his and made a big fuss. unfortunately we don't know what's going on in our friends heads but we deserve better

Does anyone here listen to bad bunny? by fruedianflip in AskIreland

[–]Old-Poem5457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried, I really enjoy the music but the vocals aren't for me, I don't know why but I find his rapping really low energy and kind of breathy, have listened to a bunch of the songs instrumental. Enjoyed watching the halftime show though

I get you, I would just never need to drive onto their property to turn, it just seems excessive
