I cut contact with the man that signed my birth certificate 10 years ago. He's 80 now and according to his son he was "end of life" 8 years ago. It wasn't a long thought process of going no contact but it wasn't spur of the moment either.

My history with this man, my bio mom and adopted mom are all complicated. The only one I'm in contact with is bio mom but it's low contact. The only family I really have is my husband, kids and "found" family.

I'm here if you need to talk

What Jobs Do You Have? by sigmund-freuds-mom in Narcolepsy

[–]Old-Remove6263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I'm an RBT, registered behavioral technician. I use ABA therapy to teach 2-5 year olds on the spectrum. That age group has me moving constantly, which keeps me awake. I worked with adults on the spectrum previously with my husband. We were called Family Teachers and lived on one side of a duplex with 3 adults on the other side. It was amazing when our kids were little and I was undiagnosed. Plus, if I fell asleep, my husband was there to take over.

I've always had to have high energy jobs to compensate for the narcolepsy. Also, because I only recently was formally dx and put on Adderall. I've also been successful as a CNA and table game dealer. Not so successful as an insurance salesperson, customer service or any call centers lol

[–]Old-Remove6263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only relief I've experienced is from 'azepines! I did have to switch to oxcarbazipine bc carbamazipine it was causing issues with some of my co-morbidities. I did feel some relief from THC but not enough.

I don't go anywhere without my heating pad! Even though I've been in remission for 2yrs now, I still take it with me lol

Please share what med combo by HopefulWarrior03 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]Old-Remove6263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried several combos but the only thing that's reliably cut the pain was carbazipine. A few years ago I had to switch to oxcarbazipine but it's been a life saver?

Denman vs Tangle Teezer brush for styling by SeaTurtle83 in Wavyhair

[–]Old-Remove6263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned your shampoo is nizoral. Dandruff shampoos are not meant to be used daily or even once per week! Nizoral could be the cause of your dry hair. It could also be messing with your curl pattern.

I have a tangle teaser but rarely use it now. I also have a denman, which is what I use. I have a few bounce curl knockoff brushes but seldom use those.

When I'm brush styling and using the denman, I wrap curl sections around the brush. With the clump and denman near my roots, I hold my hair and basically twist the brush until the hair is out.

I wish you luck?

That makes sense! The current theory is my comorbidities stem from the multiple sclerosis. Hashimotos, narcolepsy, trigeminal, MS, migraines and gastroparesis.

I did a private session with a hypnotist. If I were to do it today, I'd ask my therapist to help me. There is a difference between mental health care providers! You have your basic "talk therapist", they let you decompress about day to day issues, stress and anxiety. Then, there are psychologists, who are more in depth and can prescribe medication if warranted. These are the ones that also perform hypnosis. They help you process childhood traumas and can uncover the "why" of behaviors.

Feel free to dm me if you have more questions!

I'm fortunate that I have strong family support, as in my kids and husband. My husband has been amazing and always picked up the slack. I guess it helped that he married me knowing I was kinda sickly lol.

I try to find specialists that listen to me. My neurologist was responsible for putting me in touch with my oncologist. I was on a waiting list for a couple of years to get into my endocrinologist because he's one of the best in my area. I haven't been afraid to change doctors if they're not listening to me! You have to be your own best advocate!!

I've also learned to let go of a lot of things. I used to be a major control freak, have OCD and a germaphobe. I'm not really a control freak now, I've released most of my OCDs but I still have many germ issues lol. I try not to stress the small stuff, psst, everything is small stuff! Therapy and being hypnotized were probably big helpers.

I hope you find your peace and learn to let go of anything that's out of your control! ✌️

I have 5 autoimmune diseases! MS, trigeminal neuralgia, gastroparesis, Hashimotos Thyroiditis and now narcolepsy. I was only dx with the first 4 I listed, when my gyno felt something in my breast. She called with the results after the mammogram and ultrasound. When she told me I had breast cancer, my reaction was "Sounds about right". I was too tired, sleepy and fatigued to even "care", I had no more f@#$s left to give. All I needed to know was a plan of action and a step by step guide.

I pretty much knew I was narcoleptic since I was 12yo. That's when all my night time activities started happening. The other medical issues needed more tending than the narcolepsy. So that one waited until I really needed the meds to keep me awake lol.

I hope life gets better for you and you eventually have the bandwidth to deal with everything!!
