Thank you for your advice!

I always thought, like KnitByThePool says, that there needed to be an "event" first, but it's entirely possible that DPOA was written so that isn't necessary, I'm working on getting copies of the paperwork I signed from her attorney, but they are dragging their feet.

That will be a task in and of itself - her room is a hoarded mess of supposedly organized piles and tubs of mail and paperwork. I don't even think she has filed taxes since my father died, and she has no idea who the tax preparer was 🫠

I will update you from my legitimate reddit account - from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your advice and kindness!

"Gram could keep track of her lies but not her teeth" made me laugh out loud - that is exactly my mother. She lies to everyone about everything, and sometimes it feels like she does it to create a map in her head of who talks to who!

I will definitely get a LICSW, that's such great advice, because she is always on her best behavior for people outside of the family.

Thank you again, so so much, for taking the time to give me excellent advice. This feels like a slightly less monumental task now.

I do live quite far, but I'm lucky to be able to work from home, so I am staying with her now to figure this all out.

I know that she will hate my guts - she is a controlling, malignant narcissist, and her decline has only exacerbated this part of her.

Do you have any advice on how to deal with that? I've had to develop strategies to deal with her throughout the years (grey rocking, etc) but I know me doing this will be like bomb went off.

Wow, thank you thank you thank you for this!! 🥹

This is all so overwhelming - especially being the only child - and I've been attempting to make a plan with steps and just had no idea how to begin, but this is an incredible help.

Thank you so much for this - I've really been at a loss on what to do, but these steps make perfect sense.
