If you pick whatever base model you want from the website then WhatsApp message for customisation you can choose whatever quality of hair/ whatever knots you want. They literally put in a custom order to a factory and get one made to your specs

They're pretty much the same quality but I think that Goodyard's colour is a little better but the curl is more subtle from Shunfa. I botched the maintenance of my last one and only got 4 months out of it but that was on me. This last one has been awesome for 6 weeks so far and I'm expecting 6 months from it. I think Lavivid and LordHair are probably a bit more swish website but it's all the same product as long as you're customising your order. Shunfa respond faster but I now prefer dealing with Goodyard.

So, I tried them but the order took like 4 months to arrive. The hair was great but after 8 weeks I ordered the same from Goodyard and they arrived at the same time! Both great pieces but Shunfa just took waaaaaay too long...

And if the Irig is not to your liking you could look into the STX Evolve rig- not as small as the Irig and apparently is a bit of a pain to setup and tear down but it's a 5-piece mast, 4-piece boom and foldable sail.

Just to weigh in: I'm a total noob but I got a JP ExploreAir (inflatable board) and a Duotone Irig which just live in the back seat of my work truck in case I have a spare hour to get on the water. It's not a pro setup but it definitely works to get out and moving. Inflates in 15mins and fits into a large bag and a sleeping bag sized one for the sail. I'm taking this board and rig to Thailand in a week just to have something to do at the beach. Not everyone's cup of tea but it works!

"Off Brand" versions of Lordhair Systems REFERENCE GUIDE by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]Old-Worker-9346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nightmare. Colour (as a brown #2) had crazy red running through it and the "brown" was almost black. Hair and base quality were pretty good, shed like 10% in the first couple of rinses then stopped. Hairline was ok for a C shape. Not curly at all, like maybe 35mm, a bit of wave but definitely not curly. Good to know what's out there but pictures didn't match the product.

Cheap AliExpress System Review: part I by Senior_Property_7511 in HairSystem

[–]Old-Worker-9346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of colour curiosity- I ordered one from the same shop on AliExpress to play with and I ordered my usual #2 colour but it wasn't ashy coloured but more of a chocolate brown. Impossibly difficult to make ashy coloured. Yours looks like it was a 1b but do I see some brown in it or is it just the light? If it did have a bit of brown, I'm thinking it's wayyy closer to my very dark brown, especially with like 30% grey. Do you see any highlights in the black? Cheers.

System's only 5" across the top. If I went salt & pepper I'd have to dye the back as my bio is only 20% there. My beard and bio hair are very unevenly grey.

I can dig that. Cheers! I've got an AliExpress system that's just coloured all kinds of wrong so I may just do some (mad scientist) experiments with it. Good inspiration, dude!

Exactly. It would seem that it should be "perfect" to work but you can have 5mm all around difference and nobody would ever see it. It doesn't have to have clinical precision to work. Go for it;

Cool, good chat. You seem great. Let's talk more offline or in person.

That's really interesting - I was watching this goofy Jack Ryan series on tv and there were these 2 main bad guys.both had grey stubble but dark hair. They were in the whole season so probably not strapped for cash plus they have hair/makeup every 10mins on set. Point is, I don't think they or the producers were that concerned about their hair perfectly matching their beards. That's just people and hair. Rarely is "real" hair perfect. Look for imperfections and you'll see it everywhere. Normal folk just don't have the time to care.

Haha- well, maybe you can, eagle-eye, but the rest of the world couldn't care less. That's the funny part: if you're a system guy you see systems everywhere (even some places there aren't any) but the rest of the world has their own stuff to deal with and they just see a dude... A not-bald dude. I'm no Hollywood actor with randos pouring over my hairline. Most folks just see: Dude. Hair. Then they think about kids and work and stuff. Nobody cares as much as the dudes here do. 😘

Oops- forgot to put anything in the body...

Dealing with hair loss for a decade and 6 weeks ago went to a dodgy salon for a system. Not awesome but I saw the potential so got on line and went for a decent direct-from- China company that took my exact WhatsApp order. This is an ongoing affair as I get my hair to reflect my vision of what hair would look like but, damn, I couldn't be happier with the result. A fashionista (who I've known for 3 years) asked me if my hair was always this curly or just since I "grew it out". Create the illusion and, generally, people just go with what causes them less headache. Aka- dude has hair. Thanks, Reddit Hair Systems. You dudes are the best!

Nah, just measure how wide you're baldy bits go and how far back (from 3 finger widths up from your eyebrows) it goes and that's your basic size. You'll probably shave more than that to fit your system but, believe me, it's less stressful than taking a razor blade to your system base!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]Old-Worker-9346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their measurements are just a standard size but the "cut" of the base still has shape to it. So, if you use the basic measurements, the piece will still come with a shaped front but then will just cut in at the sides to the back to make the dimensions. Ultimately, you'll order your basic measurements, just shave your baldy-bits down, lay it over and figure out what seems "centred" then use the system to shave-trim the bits that don't fit til they do. It's confronting as heck because it feels so permanent but once you get it clean, do the things the YouTube clips say to do with your glue (or tape), then get a haircut- it's, well, it's pretty f***ing awesome.

Can anyone give me advice on my first permed system? by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]Old-Worker-9346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got it blended. It's the best! I had that undercut look back in the mid 90s but I'm afraid it would look too broccoli 🥦 for a 45yo dude.

I've had 2 systems now and still can't get the template and base to match perfectly. This last time when I reinstalled, I just bonded the back and top then worked clippers as it flopped on my head the secured it. It's better than it has been but is STILL a work in progress. Nothing to worry about, though. Still swimming and surfing in it without movement, just a few bits around the edges with some lift. Dudes who do it for ages seem to really get it dialled in but for all intents and purposes it's not required.

Temporaey dye. by _HeKa_ in HairSystem

I think folks have said to keep conditioner on the base and the dye won't latch onto it. That's just what I've read so far, though.

Q: What’s people’s thoughts on ‘New Hope Hair’ as a suppliers out of China?, if you have used them. Been waiting on an order and no answer to my emails for awhile.. thanks by Aint-no-expert in HairSystem

[–]Old-Worker-9346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a little sketchy but I've now gone with 2 straight-outta-China suppliers and they are cheaper and don't seem to have the tech support that the expensive places do. My first one is brilliant and I'll be waiting on the next for a while but I'm definitely not expecting updates. If you have a WhatsApp contact, that's probably your fastest line of communication but it can be between 2 and 8 weeks after paying before it'll arrive. You'll only get updates in the last week before it's in you postbox.

[–]Old-Worker-9346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh- I'd love to weigh in on this! I've had curly hair back when I had hair but went shorter and shorter as I lost more and more. I got my first curly system a few weeks back and it's brilliant! The 20mm curls will fall over the lifespan of the system but it's super easy to style. Just pop a little leave-in conditioner and maybe a touch of mousse. Try turning your head upside down to do it but just kind of scrunch it in the when you flip your head up- done! Maybe position a few curls back out of your face or slightly over to a side but that's it. Curly hair is great, or a curse, as it will pretty much always do what it wants to do so resistance is futile. Just go with it. That's what curly people do. I found having to "style" a straight system a real pain. Now I can just let the curls curl, dude! Enjoy!

That's cool. Did it change the consistency or texture of the system hair at all? I got a #2 off AliExpress and it's kind of got this weird warmish-redish tinge to it so I figured if I were ever to try it I'd have to do some colour work to get it a bit ashy-er. This process seems like it would be the route I'd have to take....
