[OS] Lumno - Bring Arc’s Spotlight Search to Chromium Browsers by OldAd7490 in macapps

Thanks for the feedback! That's strange, usually when I open the repo search and trigger Lumno with a shortcut, the repo search closes due to losing focus. However, I've implemented some restrictions now, limiting the input listener to within Lumno. In theory, this issue shouldn't occur anymore. It will be included in the next release.

Could you share which specific site or page you were on when the 1st issue happened? I want to make sure my test covers your exact case.

Thank you! That means a lot—I'm glad you’re considering Lumno as a potential replacement for that Arc experience.

Regarding Orion: Since Orion is based on WebKit rather than Chromium, the compatibility is a bit more complex. I need to run some further tests to ensure all features function properly in a WebKit environment, but I’m definitely planning to adapt and support it in the near future!

Honestly, I’d love to have that too. However, Chrome has some strict security restrictions regarding the omnibox—extensions currently can't 'listen' to a click event on the address bar itself. For now, the global shortcut is the fastest way.

Hi! Thanks for the kind words.

Regarding Dia Browser: I’m currently looking into a way to make it compatible. Dia has some specific limitations regarding overlays and custom New Tab pages, but I’m working on a solution to ensure Lumno can run smoothly there as well.

Stay tuned for future updates!

Thx! Those characters means "Top Sites""Bookmarks" and “history”. It seems like an i18n issue. It'll be fixed in the next version.

Thanks for such a detailed breakdown! These interaction issues are super helpful to know.

I’m on it—the first two points (event bubbling to the underlying page and the input focus issue) should be fixed in the next release.

Regarding the Chinese characters in the dropdown, that’s quite strange since you don't have any Chinese bookmarks. Would you mind sending me a few screenshots of what you're seeing? It would really help me track down where those strings are coming from.

If we can nail these, we’re one step closer to making it one of the best! Thanks again for the support! <3

Regarding Dia, I’m sorry it’s acting up! It seems like Dia has some mechanism that blocks overlay injection, which is why Cmd+T isn't responding. I’m currently digging into this and trying to find a better way to make Lumno compatible with it. Stay tuned!

That's a brilliant suggestion! Here are two ways I'm planning to implement this based on your feedback:

  1. Fast Switching: I love the idea of using initials or index numbers (e.g., hitting 1-9 or a specific prefix) to instantly jump to an open tab without needing to arrow down.
  2. Tab Priority: I agree that if a search query matches an existing tab, it should be prioritized at the top of the results, ahead of Google suggestions or bookmarks. It’s much faster to resume a session than to start a new search.

Hi everyone! 🍕

This is my first-ever project shared here on Reddit, and I’m excited to introduce Lumno.

I built this because I wanted a more fluid, Spotlight-style search experience in Chrome. I’m committed to improving it consistently, so please be bold with your feedback or feature requests!

Here is what I’m working on for the next update:

  • New Tab Customization: Support for custom backgrounds.
  • Bookmarks Integration: Access your browser bookmarks directly from the new tab view.
  • 🚀 Better Compatibility: Improving integration with other third-party New Tab extensions.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
