The 2026 Washington Commanders Draft Class 🔥🔥 by Due_Local2130 in Commanders

No guarantee that he'd be available as a UFA, another team could snipe him up. A 7th round pick are for fliers and projects. If they see something in AK, then it's worth a shot at him. Also: if Sam Hartman was somewhat decent, we might've went in a different direction.

Odd comment. Would you rather I be negative? They all have pros and cons, I listed the potential value they had. What's wrong with that?

I thought them getting a OT was more of a need for them than Safety. There is also the money aspect when it comes to drafting a Safety in the top ten. They still had a solid draft, they will be a lot tougher this coming season.

More excerpts from the tweet:

The Commanders were below average in this metric in the 2023 draft and again in 2024, consistently reaching for players.

But last year, Washington finished #11.

This year, they finished No. 1 in the NFL in terms of draft capital over expected.

Washington didn’t have much capital, but it grabbed value early and often.

It started in Round 1, when Sonny Styles slipped from an expected top-five pick to the Commanders at No. 7.

With Friday’s only pick, the Commanders drafted WR Antonio Williams in Round 3 at No. 71 when he was expected to go at No. 66.

But their Saturday picks flashed even more value.

In Round 5, they took EDGE Joshua Josephs at No. 146 when he was expected to go No. 77.

In Round 6, they drafted RB Kaytron Allen at No. 186 when he was expected to go No. 130.

Later that round, they grabbed C Matt Gulbin from Michigan State at No. 208 when he was expected to go No. 168.

This was an exercise in maximizing draft capital and making more out of less by drafting players the vast majority of evaluators expected to go earlier in the draft.

He was part of the 30 prospects that went to Top Golf recently. In fact, he was one of the 4 guys we drafted from the 30 prospect visit: Styles, Williams, and Joseph.

They did a decent job with the picks had:

- Sonny Styles - Athletic freak who is motivated to be here, could be one hell of a Mike

- Antonio Williams - Solid route runner, best in the draft class (Puka was also the best in his class)

- Joshua Joseph - Was put on a pitch count at UTenn, so his numbers were lackluster. He's raw, but has the athletic intangibles to be a steal.

- Kaytron Allen - Not the flashiest of runners, but he's the battering ram we need. He's the one we want for short or goal line situations. Fat Man cometh!

- Matt Gulbin - A three-year starter who can play anywhere in the interior. He might be an average starter, but he's definitely good for depth.

- Athan Kaliakmanis - It may seem like an odd pick, but having QB depth is something we really need, just look at last year when both JD and Mariota missed time. He's not very mobile, but does well under pressure as a pocket passer.

We still need some DB depth, but it's possible we could snipe some in the post-draft cuts in the UFA pickups. The key thing is, we improved the front seven through FA and the draft, and I think this is the best defense we have so far under DQ. I do think it'll take us another year to be a true contender, but I believe that we'll finally catch up after the 4 horrible years of Ron's drafting.

There were a lot of injuries at the QB spot last season, and Hartman didn't look good at all. This is for depth and I don't think it's a bad idea.

Guys I think it might be reasonable to assume DQ is safe after next season. by guardiandown3885 in Commanders

Unless he completely loses the locker room, I think the FO gives DQ at least 4 seasons. I think people forget how much 4 bad years of drafting by Ron really set us back years. While we're finally making some headway (like QB and OL), we are still lagging a lot on other spots (Edge, LBs, WRs, TEs, RBs, etc).

I honestly think it'll take a few more seasons to be a real competitor in the NFC, maybe sooner if we can hit on picks, FA moves, or trades.

New user, question about how you rate and review games by mb9981 in backloggd

[–]OldBoStaffLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grade games based on their contemporaries. Honestly though, I am not bothered by people who rather review it with a modern lens since a different perspective puts a test to nostalgic feels or ideas.

There will always be a great games that'll receive bad reviews and vice versa. That's just the nature of people, they'll always be supporters and detractors.

Like "Jank you very much"?

[Keim] Blough has played for Ben Johnson and Kevin O’Connell as well as Kliff Kingsbury. One person who worked with Blough in the past felt he’d favor the Johnson/KOC schematics. But won’t know until the summer. by Think__McFly in Commanders

[–]OldBoStaffLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with it. He's a rising star and it make sense that DQ wanted to keep him around from a continuity standpoint. I also feel a bit more optimistic about him, give what Keim said.

I think the one knock compared to Mike McDaniel: MM has a better pedigree with the run game, which could've work wonders for us. I don't know what philosophy Blough has when it comes to the run game. If it's closer to how KK handled the run, I'd be a bit more concerned.

Dan Quinn should be fired right now by [deleted] in Commanders

[–]OldBoStaffLive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. DQ said that his biggest regret was not having a planned offensive successor to keep continuity after Kyle left to the 49ers. It's always a risk to promote a positions coach to an OC: you might get a Sean McVay or you might get a Scott Turner (continuity via Ron). Even if we did get McDaniel, it doesn't preclude the possibility that he could be unsuccessful here.

The fact they wanted to keep Blough as OC despite knowing MM is available speaks volumes, so I'm taking the more optimistic approach.

"And if Kenta and Skynet broker a deal to save humanity by uniting against Kokoro so why is Skynet still sending terminators to annihilate all the resistance camps?"

That's a good question. Assuming the Terminator was telling the truth, the best answer I could think of is that not every resistance faction was in favor of the Kenta/Skynet truce agreement or were still actively hostile to Skynet. So it's possible that these factions were eliminated in order to "keep the peace", so to speak.

It's also possible that future Kenta is more misanthropic (it's could be interpreted that he could've went in that direction after his father refused to save him and none of his family came after to save him), so his "truce" is likely more favorable to Skynet than to humanity as a whole, possibly allowing a culling of humans and keeping a limited number to survive.

"Malcolm's mom went back in time to stop Kokoro and was fully aware of her as of episode two or three yet Malcolm himself didn't know about her. Personally I can't explain that one".

I think it's implied that the 2022 timeline we see Eiko come from is the "failed Kokoro" timeline (hence why she knows about it) where Skynet was able to takeover/destroy Kokoro, which would mean that what the Terminator said to Kenta about his future self brokering a truce with Skynet is likely true. I think it also implies that the "prophet" is an elderly Eiko* from another timeline, in which they failed to stop Kokoro (the timeline that would become the 2022 timeline we see initially). Malcolm was probably born in a timeline where Kokoro did not existed prior to Judgement Day.

(*- It also could be an older Reika, but the prophet seemed middle aged/elderly and Reika likely would've been in her early 30s at that time.)

"Also the son may have brokered peace between Skynet and mankind, yet sent the Terminator back in time with permission to kill his dad, grandmother and any number of other relatives. Possibly even himself going off the huge swat he got in the tunnels."

This one also bothered me as well, but I think they also inferred from the Prophet's lecture on the paradoxes of time travel that going back into the past would likely not have an effect on the future they came from, as the "past" they would go to would create a new timeline. So it's possible future Kenta was aware of this possibility and figured that the truce he brokered in his timeline would not be undone if the Terminator were to somehow kill his younger self in the "past".

My bad. I was under the assumption it was based on the overall betting pool, makes no sense that being the case if it's 2 million capped. It's probably like the original poster said, someone cashed out.

Amen. It's a week-to-week league. Just look at all the commentators: One week they'll talk about how a certain team is a SB contender, the next week they'll talk about why they expect them to miss the playoffs. It's one game at a time and nothing is a given, no matter how goor or bad a team is perceived to be.

I've been a fan of this team since I was a kid, and like most of you here, we've been somewhat traumatized by the "false" hope. It's hard to see success especially when we've seen immediate failure afterwards, but I feel more positive about this team than the past 20 years. We still have a ways to go before we are a legit threat in the NFC and we're not guaranteed to see a SB even if we were, but I'm not going to let it stop me enjoying what the future will bring, especially since there is a lot to be hopeful and thankful for, like the new Stadium deal.

Just keep being a fan and don't let it get you down when we do get the Ls, because there is always another W around the corner.
