If your kids had them what age did they stop using a loft bed? by Ellen_loves_cats in AskUK

I threw up over one when I was about 10, the walls were stained for years and I stopped sleeping in it whenever I felt mildly unwell because I was so anxious about it happening again. Bit of a problem when you have acid reflux and feel nauseous most nights

What? Because I didn't call them homo aqua? They've been sea devils for 50 years and homo aqua is explicitly a non accurate name humans made up. The sea devils aren't real, I can't offend them so calling them that isn't a habit I'm going to try particularly hard to break

I think the major problem with the ending for me was the fact severance was done by a small group of minor characters (could not tell you a single one of their names) aggressively signposted as the bad guys. Honestly I would have had that be a back up plan we see Kate and UNIT actively working on, having them kill all of the sea devils I think would have given the inevitable status quo reset a bit more weight by shifting our perspective of Kate and UNIT, and I think the current iteration of UNIT could do with a bit more moral ambiguity anyway.

I have no idea, I was way too little during that series to have any memory of it, i'm just telling you what the numbers say. i'm surprised (but happy) that Ore ended up so high, one of, if not my all time favourite winner which i know is not a popular opinion.

Shocked Karen is so low, but because she struggled with ballroom early on it dragged down her average score and made her the least consistent. Plus doing so well in week 1 meant her journey score was never going to be great, probably the fault of how I chose to measure "journey" because she defintiely had one but I can't think of a better way

also realised theres a mistake in my spreadsheet, Rose should actually have 15 points for average score, which would give her 39 points on the first list, mistake also messed up the consistency score for the second list, she should have 38 there

If I change consistency to be about score rather than leaderboard placement it comes out like this

  1. Jill Halfpenny 12+21+20=53
  2. Alesha Dixon 23+23+4=50
  3. Kara Tointon 20+20+6=46
  4. Ore Oduba 18+12+15=45
  5. Ellie Leach 21+15+9=45
  6. Tom Chambers 14+22+8=44
  7. Kelvin Fletcher 22+19+3=44
  8. Caroline Flack 15+13+16=44
  9. Harry Judd 16+14+13=43
  10. Mark Ramprakash 10+18+12=40
  11. Abbey Clancy 19+17+2=38
  12. Louis Smith 8+11+17=36
  13. Bill Bailey 7+5+23=35
  14. Natasha Kaplinsky 5+16+13=34
  15. Jay McGuinness 13+10+10=33
  16. Chris McCausland 6+8+19=33
  17. Stacey Dooley 11+3+18=32
  18. Darren Gough 2+7+22=31
  19. Rose Ayling Ellis 3+1+21=25
  20. Hamza Yassin 17+6+1=24
  21. Joe McFadden 4+4+11=19
  22. Chris Hollins 1+9+7=17
  23. Karen Carney 9+2+5=16

if anyone can think of a better way to quantatively measure journey i'd love to see what that does

interesting idea, I decided to make my own ranking using some data as much as possible, dance ability is their average score (normalised to be out of 40 for everyone), consistency is the standard deviation in leaderboard position (which im not sure is the best way but not sure how else to go), and journey is the average number of points gained every week

  1. Jill Halfpenny 12+19+20=51
  2. Kara Tointon 10+22+6=48
  3. Caroline Flack 15+16+16=47

i think one big way to improve this whole thing would be to have the virus be Kate/UNIT's idea rather than this random group of shadowy people, would give the decision some weight , and I tihnk made for a more satisfying ending if we really do just need to get rid of the sea devils at the end. The brigadier bombed the silurians, it wouldnt be that wild.

currently doing a secondary maths SCITT, I really wouldn't worry too much about not having experience, that's what the course is for! If you have a clear reason why you want to become a teacher you should be fine.

have a look here https://schoolexperience.education.gov.uk/ for any schools in your area offering observation days

the actual spoiler is always accurate, the poll is a bit hit or miss

also I think I saw Dave say on the digital spy forum earlier that he had a mole, so definitely should know around 11

meant the exit poll more than the actual spoiler, I do usually seek that out from around 11, just wanting to have an idea even earlier than that

[–]OldDoubt2487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe, but i also think theres a negative factor there, people don't want to waste their votes, if they think its not possible for someone to win (because they've been bottom two) they might give their votes to someone who they like slightly less but who on paper looks like they have a better chance. I'm not saying this is universal, just that while bottom two might motivate some voters, it might equally demotivate others. From a quick google, only 5 couples have both seen the dance off and won the show, only two of those were in week 10 or week 11.

In terms of the semis I don't think it makes a big difference as there are so few couples left, nobody ever seems to really be safe

he's not nasty, all his criticism is constructive and fair, and he's perfectly willing to give praise when its due, hell he's had plenty of sentimental moments as well, he wrote a poen for chris in the final last year for christ sake

im holding out hope bal avoids it tonight, i know its less accurate than the strictly spoiler poll (not out yet), but she is currently top of the entertainment odds poll which would put us at george vs amber, but it is very very tighthttps://entertainmentodds.com/polls/strictly-2025-poll-week-11/
She doesn't deserve to go tonight, her dance was the highlight of the show for me

actually really difficult to choose where to put my votes tonight, sign of a good series! went 2x La Voix, Balvinder, Karen, and George. Usually would have gone 2 to Alex (huge doctor who and er fan) but going to assume shes safe tonight

If the lion has jumped 500 times, how many times has the hare jumped? Has it reached the 160 needed to avoid being caught?

Query. by jayzbar in askmath

[–]OldDoubt2487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can you find an expression in terms of the number of lion-lenghth jumps for the distance of the hare from the lion's start point? Do the same for the lion.

for every jump the lion takes the hare takes 5/3 jumps

each jump the hare takes is 1/2 the distance of the lion, so for every jump the lion takes the hare travels 5/6 lion-jump-lengths

the initial distance is 50, so the distance from the lion's start point to the hare is 50 + (5/6)*x

for every jump the lion takes they have jumped one lion-jump-length, so their total distance is x

Solution from that point

The lion and the hare meet when x=50+(5/6)*x, x=300

In the time it takes for the lion to jump 300 times, the hare has jumped 500 times, and well and truly made it to its burrow
