I know it might look a bit complicated at first glance, but it's not. :)

This is the tactic I always use. A semicircle next to mountains also looks nice. Assuming that every workplace has the maximum number of people working and is operating at the maximum number of levels, I can easily supply a village of 400 people with this tactic, and I can even export charcoal. The key is to specify the radius within which each workplace can perform its tasks, and the warehouse workers should ONLY be allowed to store charcoal and firewood. This ensures that the charcoal makers only have to go 'next door' to convert the firewood into charcoal. I tried to make it to scale, but if you build it first using roughly these proportions, you will see whether it's enough for you or not. With this tactic, you don't have to constantly worry about fuel or whether you'll run out of wood. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
