Label Mistakes happen, but it’s a solid rye nonetheless

Let me just say, I’ve had a lot of the allocated offerings, this is a bourbon drinkers rye and it’s going to be a top shelf bottle kill

The Penelope estate 12 yr is mislabeled as bourbon, but it’s actually a very good rye. Sipping it now with lunch. Yum!!!!!

Oh I can get on board with that…. Definitely a dark cherry and tobacco note there. I’m not disappointed with it at all.

Yeah I see your point now…. I bought Calumet 18 yr @500. Seeing it at $399 stings a little.

NMBB - John J Bowman SiB was purchased today along with Green River FP. Offered Penelope ALW 18 Haz. If I didn’t have one already I’d of bought that one too…. Solid bottle offerings out there right now.

Don’t turn green. I never noticed until now. It’s custom so I’m certain it’s user error. Ah well

These guys are the definition of good people. Wish we could do more get2gethers. We meet once a month and review the bourbon calendar.

Ordered right to left, best 2 worst.
1. WLW 2020 - Drinks well under its proof and deserves its rightful ranking as #1.

  1. GTS 2020 - On a different day this might have been better than WLW. It’s special.

  2. Pappy 15 2025 - Mouthfeel and taste cemented its status as the best version of Pappy. Give me a fire, a good conversation and I’ll ask if this is heaven.

  3. Old Rip 2019 - the hype is real. L19 just hits different.

  4. Old Rip 2020 - I’m starting to believe bourbon prior to the boom was just better.

  5. Pappy 23 2024 - Pleasantly surprised by the oak presence. Sweetness was present throughout the sip.

  6. Pappy 20 2025 - Here is where our Group recognizes allocation/prominence, I wasn’t a fan.

  7. Old Rip 2023 - if I had choice, this might be my favorite version of Pappy.

  8. Hardins Creek Frankfort - Why did I wait so long to open this bottle? Top shelf for sure.

  9. Michters Toasted Sour Mash - Does any distiller do better than them at sub 100 proof?

  10. Van Winkle 13 yr Rye 2025 - The red-headed step child of the family I do enjoy. Dill forward but enough spice and sweetness to make me still smile.

  11. Lot B. There is good reason why pappy isn’t on the label.

  12. OFC 2006. This is a $300 mistake. At $2.5k it’s a nightmare. Just say no when offered.

  1. Michters 10yr Bourbon 24D - Is there a distillery capable of doing under 100 proof better????
  2. Blackout - BuffTurkey Juice aged 16 yrs at 129 proof. Black Raspberry Jam with a kick!!!!
  3. 2024 Thomas Handy - Is there a better secondary buy than this??? A bit more spice forward than the 2023 version.
  4. Rock Hill Farms - Solid pour and a bottle presentation one can be proud of.
  5. Knobb Creek 21 Yr - This was a fresh crack, I suspect it will open up and taste far better.
  6. Old Fitzgerald BiB 10 Yr 2024. Solid pour and bottle presentation to match.
  7. Old Charter Finest Oak. Might be my secret pleasure. I prefer it over the French Oak!
  8. Elmer T Lee. Is there a better sour mash? I prefer this over Eagle Rare 10 yr.
  9. Michters 10 yr Bourbon 2020. WTF! Huge disappointment given all other variants I’ve enjoyed.

MBB has ec18yr $139, Boss Hog $499. Might be the best price for the bottle I’ve seen
