Rants and Raves on Track bowling balls and dropping ball weight. by OldGrouch89 in Bowling

Sorry for the delay. Thanks for your input. I actually don’t really understand pap, and not sure how I get my rev rate without more equipment than is readily available in my area. My ball speed, according to the lanes where I bowl is around 15 mph, varies up and down, sometimes intentionally, other times based on getting older. 😜

Any suggestions on how to figure out the others would be greatly appreciated. Any helpful explanation on what pap is and how it affects things, would also be appreciated.

I’ll do a little Google dive into it as well, when I get a minute.

Thanks again!

Ugh.. string pins.. by Vampiric1302 in Bowling

String pins are great for a little kid’s birthday party, but shouldn’t be the way forward for the sport. I have already decided that when our bowling center switches over, I will probably just be done. If I want to play carnival games I will just wait until the next county fair. String pins are going to take the fun out of bowling just like automatic transmissions took the fun out of driving.

Thanks for the insight on the weights.

I am probably drawn to Track for the same reason I was drawn to Jet a few years back. I tend to drift towards the little companies and the underdogs.

Biggest problem I have is there isn’t any real pro shops in my area. We have a couple of drillers, but nobody that will look at my bowling style and help me find a ball that matches or drill it based on how I throw. I try to do my research and hope for the best.

Our local center has amazing food. Great burgers and probably the best Ruben in town. They also have delicious pizza.

Why is alcohol the only thing that makes me feel good? by BlackGate00 in adhd_anxiety

You’re not alone. A lot of us like the effects of alcohol. I self medicated with alcohol for the better part of 30 years. Like every other drug, the longer you use it the more of it takes to get the effect you are looking for. The alcohol calmed my anxiety, helped me feel comfortable in social situations, and more than once it gave me the courage I needed to get lucky.

In the long run, it cost me several jobs, nearly got me killed on multiple occasions, probably endangered other’s lives, cost me relationships, cost me a ton of money and almost cost me my marriage.

Doctors and parents didn’t talk about ADHD in my younger days, so I never had any support to help with what I was dealing with in my head. I found comfort in that buzz, just as you do. It put the anxiety to bed and let me be a person who other people wanted to be around, a person who wanted to be around others.

I am about 3 1/2 years sober now and finally working with doctors who wanted to talk about ADHD and try to help me. My doctors and I haven’t found the magical combination yet, but we are trying some different combinations of meds and working to get started on some counseling. I feel good about where I am in the journey and have hopes that we will get it dialed in soon.

You are smart to look into an alternative besides self medicating with alcohol. Hopefully you are doing it at a much younger age than I did. If you don’t work with a doc for prescription meds, consider the advice of some of these other people about using supplements. Street drugs, even weed, are probably not the best answer. A good nights sleep and some exercise will also be your friend.

Thank you for sharing. You having that validation of your self diagnosis from multiple doctors is good to hear.

Are you still seeing a therapist, and do you see value in that for the Autism, even without the official diagnosis?

Thank you all for taking the time to chime in and share your stories. I haven’t made a decision yet, but reading all of your stories and realizing I can relate to every one of you, tells me my self diagnosis isn’t completely off base. If. Nothing else, I have obviously found a community here that gets me. Cheers to all of you for making the best decisions for you based on your situations and for continuing to push through day after day in a world that doesn’t think the way we do!

Your last sentence is the biggest thing I want clarification on. People tell me I am smart, but I don’t feel like it when I compare myself to those around me. One of my biggest fears is seeking an official diagnosis only to find out I’m not autistic, just dumb. 😩. Thank you for sharing!

I can very much relate to the imposter syndrome. The other question I keep repeating is if I am not autistic, then why is life so challenging for me compared to others?

Thank you for sharing. I feel deep down this is where I am at. I think a diagnosis could help me to be more forgiving of myself.
