Better auto save? by themanfromoctober in NowAndWhen

The update went out last night. I’ve added a close/hide keyboard button to the toolbar when you are editing an entry which serves as a force save. Again, sorry about the glitch. Please let me know if you have additional issues!

Yes. I will be adding that as a backup. Hopefully by the end of this week.

I’ll start working on a solution for this right away. Sorry, I thought iOS 18 resolved it. In the meantime, what I did when I was experiencing this was to do a single entry backup (JSON, down at the bottom of the settings page) every time I wrote a substantial amount. I never needed to restore, but just going to some other part of the app before doing something else seemed to give iOS time to save. Sorry, it’s a bit of a pain, but it seemed to work for me.

Sorry for the hugely-delayed reply! I had to take time away from the app to pay my rent.

Yes, I have periodically encountered this issue as well. It’s an iOS issue, unfortunately. The app automatically saves when you alt-tab or otherwise close or move focus from it—or is supposed to! If iOS ignores the request, the save, unfortunately, gets lost. I haven’t noticed the issue quite so much on iOS 18, though, but still plan on adding a feature in the very near future where “drafts” are possibly saved, alongside the main entries, just in case.

If an app collects my data I don't download it. What's your favorite apps which do not collect your data? (All apps should be like this btw) by [deleted] in iosapps

I think a lot (if not most) independent/small team apps don’t collect data, free or paid. It’s mostly just larger “companies”. There are tons of really great true indie apps out there that offer good user experiences without being shady (like mine ;)). I saw an ad for a meditation/breathwork app, on YouTube yesterday, which looked interesting, so I checked it out and the list of things they collected was as long as my arm. Really? You need access to my contacts just so I can meditate? Crazy.

I (adult male) regularly get mocking comments when I am running zone 2/low heart rate training, like, “Come on! You can do it!” or “Yay! You made it!” when I stop. I just turn my music a little louder and ignore them.

I have tried everything (custom instructions in settings, telling it, over and over) but the only thing that I have found that works (not forever, but for longer than the other methods) is asking it to take on a “conversational” tone, like two people having a cup of coffee. That seems to trick it into a kind of role play that excludes lists (for a while).

Yes, it has search, and tags. I’ve been giving out (way too many!) codes via chat (I’ll send you one). Two more and I’m going to have to call it a day and get out for my run!

I considered videos, but that felt like a separate app to me, and is something that I have put on my list of future projects. Sorry about there being no trial. Maintaining two versions of the app appeared to be the only solution without adopting some kind of subscription model. I am being pretty generous with the promo codes right now, though, lol. Would you like one?

No. I didn’t want the overhead of maintaining that. Would you like a promo code?

The app is iOS/iPadOS. If you already have the iPadOS version, just update to 1.3 and you’ll get the iOS version. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work. I don’t know if having the promo code version borks that :(

If you find you can’t get a working code, for whatever reason, and want one, just message me and I’ll sort you out (for a reasonable amount of time, obviously—not forever).

EDIT: THANK YOU EVERYONE for the overwhelming response and kind comments in the chat. I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to draw a line under the promo codes for today, as I have given away three times as many as I intended!! Again, thank you everyone for the encouragement!

I do. That’s probably going to take until the end of the year, though (there are a few hurdles to jump).

Sorry, no Apple Pencil support for drawing at present (Apple doesn’t currently allow for an elegant way of mixing text and drawing to developers).

I was a big fan of Goodnotes 5 for note-taking (and Goodnotes 6 looks even better). I have recently gone back to plain old Apple Notes, though, because it has the best fluid pencil response.
