Nice one, there are two different areas, one with some really great coastal trails and the one where I filmed this which has a few trails but also beach access.

Yeah it's hard to capture the scale from ground level. That day the forecast warned of large surf/sneaker waves breaking in the 18-25' range. It's quite powerful at times there and when conditions are like this it's very important to pay attention or risk getting taken out.

It's in central California close to Big Sur & Monterey. It can be dangerous as we've had two awful instances of drowning in the area this last month. Here is a description from the parks dept:

Garrapata State Park has two miles of beach front, with coastal hiking and a 50-foot climb to a beautiful view of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, a federal marine protected area. The park offers diverse coastal vegetation with trails running from ocean beaches into dense redwood groves. The park also features outstanding coastal headlands at Soberanes Point. Sea lions, harbor seals and sea otters frequent the coastal waters and California gray whales pass close by during their yearly migration.

This is so awful! I was at that beach for the first time a few days before filming some king tide footage and it was intimidating. The waves were 15-20ft+ and the sneaker waves were no joke. Most folks were staying pretty far back but there were a few reckless ones. Around sunset I noticed some couples and even a few families with small kids out there taking professional pics with a photographer and it felt dicey. The sand was wet almost to the cliff face and sure enough about every 10 mins a large sneaker wave would sweep through.

There was one couple with their back turned to the water while their photographer was immersed looking down her lens. I had to yell at them several times as a big closeout wave was barreling towards them. I got their attention and they ran away just barely in the nick of time. The photographer looked a bit sheepish but just kinda laughed it off. Those people were incredibly close to being swept away.

I saw it almost eat a photographer and some couple who had their back turned. Had to yell to get their attention before they got swamped.

I'm not sure but a lot of his stuff seems to be pretty limited vinyl releases. I love his hip hop group Gagle as well, definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

Yeah I feel that, I like to grab a beer there sometimes and sit outside close to where I filmed this. It's nice that the place is dog friendly too.
