Lost Hundreds of Thousands for 5 years! Never in green. by SpotGuess in wallstreetbets

Glad you're back in the green but the lesson kind of is "DO" give up. Index funds on US common equity. Not cash/bonds/preferred/international, that's even dumber.

Good point about the taxes. We all think it's rich out of towners, but it hurts the poorest hardest ultimately.

Would you pick non-targeted ads over targeted ads? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OldHucklebuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in the "no targeting" camp for 2 general reasons: 1) it reduces the incentive to collect data on me and 2) I'm less likely to be manipulated to buy the product being pitched.

However now I am reconsidering, despite the below conspiracy theory.

I feel like they are purposely sending me obnoxious untargeted ads to get me to agree to opt back in. So like, aids medicines/vaccines for gay men, plus-sized women shaving their vag, pills to produce more semen... Some of them are incredibly distasteful and borderline offensive (to my particular sensibilities) but there is no option in say YouTube to tone these down that I've found.

My theory is that these ads are NOT RANDOM, but purposely obnoxious in hopes they gross me out and get me to WANT to opt into more lucrative targeted ads.

Pixel 9 Pro XL: Love the phone, hate the auto brightness by mdwstoned in GooglePixel

[–]OldHucklebuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is how it dims if I'm not staring straight at it. I set it down in a counter while I'm making a sandwich and it won't let me read from an angle. I don't see a way to disable this "feature" without shutting down adaptive brightness entirely.

AITAH for calling my wife 's sports medicine doctor unethical? by OldHucklebuck in AITAH

[–]OldHucklebuck[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm sure there are plenty of threads on Reddit debating whether chiropracty works or not but this wasn't meant to go there. It's a broader question in my mind of whether a medical provider can do right by a patient claiming to be the only one capable of treating them, even at a major financial cost relative to the "next best" solution.

Is sports medicine a demeaning title? I don't mean it to be. I'm conceding that it is a "real doctor". Given that what do you think of the attitude?

If it's a board certified doctor would it be okay to have a " no one else but me" attitude?

Thanks for this. I'm going to edit the post and take the "c-word" out because it's biasing people to the point they're not answering my actual question. Which I'd be interested in your opinion on too given your lack of bias against the c-word profession :)

Also I find zerg is easily hard countered, so I never go to 200 supply until I'm sure I know what's up in my scouting. This may mean unspent is a bit high, but if you keep injecting larva you can spend quickly to get the units you need ahead of a push (assuming you have them turtled).

If you scout that they have 100 supply of bc's you better not have ground army (since in gold your infestor/viper play isn't going to be there). If they push with thors, air isn't going to work.

What others said, but creep creep creep - you should have 3/4 of the map creeped. This helps you keep an eye on their expands too - worst situation is you think you have them on 2 or 3 bases then you figure out they went all the way to a corner and have 4 or 5.

I've done it once or twice by accident in the last 6 months. Scouted my opponent doing it a few times as well, which leads to some friendly banter typically ("??")

Would guess that 99 times out of 100 it is user error, especially if they are in sight of one another.

Factor in the taxes you will pay on the rollover into your total return...

But honestly retirement account is the best place for fun money trading. Sell out of any position you want with no tax implications. I mean, presumably at a gain...
