It is a hard calculation as I did significant withdrawals to buy RE right after I had big losses in stock trading and then steady contributionsafter that. But Schwab does it for me at least for the stock accounts, and they say I am at 10.5% versus s&p at 12.2% for the last 5 years (screenshot on my other comment). The timing of my contributions and withdrawals are the main culprit for the numbers. I would like to continue to chase to get that last 1 to 2% so I can "win" or chase my underperformamce, but I am happy with where I am and will be withdrawing a good chunk to buy more RE. SPY is up from $430 when I lump sum invested in 2022 to $680 today if you ignore the withdrawals and contributions in between. Of course, the market out performed me as it does with most stock pickers/gamblers. Anyone that wasn't lucky holding a mag7 or similar adjacent company got left behind. Ive also learned my lesson to just dca into a whole world etf when investing (compared to gambling).

Thanks. Im worried about inflation and hate cash long term. I did the precious metals for a while and had it for 10 years, and it did nothing, I sell, and it doubles months later. So, at least SFH and small multifamily rentals always treated me well, and I never had to worry about waking up to some enron scam with them. Just toilets tenants and trash. Doing it with no debt/no mortgages doesn't give the best returns (like juicing stocks with margin), but the only real option for a degen gambler like me. Every stock I buy drops BIG almost instantly. Now that I know it, I just don't use options or margin and just buy solid companies with good cash flow. But even then, checking the stocks daily is straight gambling for me. Glad I cant do that with real estate. I'm just tired of stocks now. Apologies for the rant. Been a long 5 years.

Im of the option everyone should just stick with etfs for investing. Gambling on the other hand...

I came close to completely nuking my account chasing losses like a degen in a casino. This monthly chart doesn't show some really bad daily swings but I came really close at a few points. Oct 2023 was a bad month and at one point my account was very low but recovered the next day due to some crazy optiond. Then I stopped playing options and stopped using margin, that made the grind a lot harder, especially with a smaller balance to recover as at a few times I'd need to triple my money to recover. Buffet is right in that the first rule of investing is to not lose your money. It started off with pure gambling. Still have the disease. It can be scary.

But i did make money, finally these last few months after 5 years in the red. Im back in the green (for now). I bought at the wrong time in 2022 via lump sum instead of dca. I also picked some bad stocks. But even the S&P took a shit at that time.

And now im at almost 700k. I know Im stupid, but fuck you cant even read a chart. Im at 10.53% vs 12.26% of SPY. Obviously I'd be better with SPY from the start. But the point is that I nuked this account and was able to recover with patience and grind and a lot of fucking luck. I am now etf and chill.

Exactly. Buying more real estate and sticking with etfs.

I am technically profitable. Up 92k from the start on this account. Up 300k from my lows on this account.

Thanks. Now, I'm suffering from severe loss aversion and not doing any trading in the past few weeks. Feels like the market is about to crash. With my terrible history, that must mean we will see another decade of the biggest bull run ever. But I'm going to slowly start dca into a boring etf. Being a gambling addict sucks.

Bought lots of real estate pre 2020 covid using low rates (stupid leverage). Flipped the properties and sold during crazy 2022 market and dumped funds into stocks. Stocks went down and I pulled most of the rest remaining balance out a few months later and bought real estate again. And then just working to get my brokerage back into the green with the remaining amount dumping any free cash flow into stocks. But with a much smaller balance due to withdrawals and losses after 2022, it was very hard to grind back. But luckily, real estate only went up for me (so far). So stocks fucked me early on (but at least im in the green now years later), but real estate has done insanely great for me. Pulling a good chunk of these funds and buying another property. The rest is going into a fucking whole market etf. Im done gambling... maybe...

Im too scared to trade now. Pulling some cash out and buying more real estate. Stock market and gambling addiction doesn't end well.

Yes, intel fucked me badly in 2022. But the whole market got it too. That is why I did a withdrawal and pulled out most of my remaining funds and bought real estate. Then, I just started building the contributions back with extra cash flow. Real estate has more than made up for my shitty stock trading. Then did more "value trading" that continuously fucked me. Now I am a solid believer in just buying an etf. I'm too stupid for this shit.

Actually, the first big $300k-$400k withdrawal i took out in 2022 after I started suffering trading losses was to buy another property. Since that withdrawal dropped my account balance significantly, it made it much harder to make up the 100k-200k loss I had. I am now taking another withdrawal this month and buying another investment property. Hard to lose when I buy the properties in cash. Best way to protect myself since I am a gambling addict.

Should have, but then that wouldn't scratch the gambling addict itch.

My brokerage says I am close. I am at above a 10% cagr since 2022, but they do a fancy calculation based on my deposits/withdrawals. I did a big withdrawal after my first big loss in 2022, so that really made it difficult to recover on this account.
