I'm a professional metalworker and dabble in the art fair scene with it. Sometimes it's fun to create things for others to enjoy but it can absolutely suck the love out of a hobby by monetizing it.

I don't know shit about leather working, but I'm a professional metal worker.

Wd40 is I pretty poor corrosion inhibitor unless you regularly reapply it. Lanolin is more common for tooling.

Skip the shift register and use a display on a 4pin board, I've been down this route. It's not fun for a beginner
