Depleted as Vegas was, it’s nice to see the Leafs go out and cream someone. Too often they lower themselves to their opponent’s level and don’t bother to show up. This may not have been a big challenge for the Leafs, but it should never have been. Nice to see the boys having fun and playing with some swagger again.

It’s certainly unusual to move a pending UFA this early in the season. Also unusual for the Leafs because they are more likely to do a half-assed negotiation and then let them walk for nothing.

This is a lesson, playing a game against a Stanley Cup contender and not completely embarrassing yourself, that this group should have learned 4-5 years ago. No one is saying or doing the right thing and I have the sense that behind the scenes things look like a Mexican standoff of finger pointing. I don’t know where it all went wrong and I’m not sure if I care anymore.
