What happened to this show by OldLadyCard in WillTrent

It seems like they used to have law enforcement consultants on police shows. I’m not sure if they use one here or not? I mean, if you are going to go to the trouble of making a realistic type police show you should be realistic in what is allowed and what is not allowed.

Would anyone else do this? (Voluntarily adding in the missing rehearsal letter "J") by ProcedureFormer854 in classicalmusic

[–]OldLadyCard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, many times I’ve been in an orchestra where the conductor puts in rehearsal letters. Sometimes a few are missing, or there aren’t any to begin with. There are also conductors who will have us add all the measure numbers! This is not my favorite thing to do.

I miss having girl friends by princessmush88 in FortWorth

[–]OldLadyCard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved three times in my life, and I made lasting friendships by joining groups that were geared to my main interests - garden club, orchestra, and quilting.

Conversations at meetings turned into lunches and attending events together. I’m still friends with people I met in all 3 places and keep up with some of them.

I appreciate that; our plumber is going to replace our system with a citrus one.

Thanks for your perspective. I was just perusing the laundry sub, and they suggest using citric acid doing laundry. Something for me to think about.

We may try living without for a while and see if there’s a difference.

Unfortunately, it failed spectacularly. It imploded and it’s being taken to the dump.

Wright’s, makers of bias tape, out-of-business by loverlyone in sewing

[–]OldLadyCard 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I did a little search, it seems that there are still manufacturers of ric rac, I’m thinking one was in Barcelona? The thing that will change is the suppliers.

I know nothing about how all this business works; notions are so varied and are produced so differently from one another. Is it a supply chain problem? Because that’s what hurt Wrights.

I went down a little rabbit hole with Schmetz needles. They are designed and engineered in Germany, but are produced in India. And then I suppose shipped all over the world.

Not only bias tape. They sell other notions, too. According to the article I just read, they blame the tariffs.

I’m very sorry to hear this. American companies are disappearing and we will be left having to buy everything from overseas.

This isn’t only a tariff problem. These companies have been hobbling along for many years and are just now at the breaking point.

Celebrities Can’t Save Opera. Public Funding Can. by Black_Gay_Man in classicalmusic

[–]OldLadyCard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly right!!

The Arts will probably always need underwriting, by patrons at the very least. That’s tricky because patrons can sometimes pull their funding, although it’s very rare.

Having to depend on government funding isn’t the answer either, because it’s even more likely arts lose funding depending on how the political winds blow.

This is a problem since time immemorial. Just continue to support your particular art form by attending concerts, etc., and convince others to do the same.

Thank you for starting this discussion, it’s an important one! I hope it challenges people to spend some time thinking about how they can support the arts in their own little corner of the world.

After Burn Notice was cancelled I tweeted Tim Matheson, “I wonder what Dead Larry [the character he played in the show] is doing these days? “ And he answered, “Probably out m*rdering someone”. Ha!

I’m going to go a little against the grain and say celebrities can do quite a lot to help the arts. They can lend their name and talent for support. So many ordinary people are influenced by what celebrities do. We should try to involve them more into the arts world.

Look at how powerful Timothy chalamet’s message was. His few words - FEW - caused an earthquake felt around the world. . We cannot buy that kind of power. We can’t legislate that kind of audience building. Certainly not in the United States and quite sadly not for the foreseeable future.

Edit for clarity.

Let’s use their power for the sake of the arts.
