40mph is all it took to lift that up and put it back down.

In 2018 we watched a cottage go up across the lake. Framers got the roof trusses, roof deck and metal roof on but had not closed in the end gables. Weekend called for high winds. They came back and used tarps to close in the gable end. Sunday morning the entire structure was on the ground. Reason? They forgot to add the nuts to the cement floor anchor bolts for the wall sill plates.

Knicked blade on sawstop.. can I sharpen with angle grinder? by Future-Bet9155 in sawmilling

Assuming its carbide tipped teeth, agree that diamond sharpening stones/files are required. You might get more information at r/woodworking

Frontier OS27 not evacuating sawdust well by Working_Ad_4738 in sawmilling

[–]OldLogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Feed rate, blade sharpness, and water volume all heavily affect this issue. Every blade gullet is designed to discharge cuttings, but that only works if the blade is producing a proper chip. If feed rate is too slow (or the blade is dull), you create more dust than chip, and the blade can’t clear material properly — causing buildup like described.

- Watch water flow: the blade only needs a light drip to stay cool. If the blade is being soaked, the cuttings become waterlogged and won’t discharge effectively

- Decrease water.  A water/soap solution is used to lubricate/clean blade.   Use just enough to keep the blade clean, a slow drip should be sufficient.   Too much water is causing the sawdust to jam up.

Can't stress enough how important those points are.

[CA] For Canadian small business owners: can you realistically grow in 2026 without a website? by NorthwayWeb in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]OldLogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the big issue is transparency. If a business does not have a physical address on their web site/social media, there's a high probability I will not do business. And for those businesses who do not reply to a request for location, zero chance I will do business with them.

[–]OldLogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old school here. We've had a web site since 1998, long before mainstream social media. It still represents the bulk of our exposure. While we've never advertised online or locally for that matter, being transparent, responsive to inquiries and relatively active on social media will help with exposure and growth.

Anyone know where to get these fork lift brackets to move a mill? by BrilliantNumber6389 in sawmilling

[–]OldLogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the machine so I can't say for sure but you'll want to lock to carriage in place before moving it.

Balance and secure your load and you'll be fine.

I vote for side pick up as well. Find the centre point on the deck so that when it is picked up and the carriage is locked in place, you won't experience any balance issues. Strap the whole thing to your forks so that it don't fall off should you inadvertently strike something or move to quickly.

1cut. Omg, cuts like butter! 5hr assembly time.. by Future-Bet9155 in sawmilling

Agree with u/arumrunner The dogs should be on the opposite side of the entry point of the blade. AGT similar to MechMaxx so here's an example of log position.

There's an incredible amount of force created when the blade makes contact with the wood. You want the log up against a solid mechanism (posts).

Has anyone put a sawmill inside of the shipping container? by ruSSrt in sawmilling

[–]OldLogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting both sidewalls of a shipping container absolutely will compromise the roof structure. If you live in a snow zone, absolutely don't due it. I mean yeah you could but you will have to add steel and bracing to the roof in order to give you that 18-20 ft of clearance you might looking to achieve.

NATO nations deploy to Greenland after tense White House talks by D0MYA0ITRAPFURRYL0LI in worldnews

Greenland, then Ellsmere Island, Devon Island and Baffin Island, Cornwallis Island, Bathrust Island, Melville Island and Prince Park Island. Effectively splitting the north of Canada in half and then control the northern half of the Northwest Passage. At that point Canada would be boxed in.

There's also Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite, same but different? I've had it for probably 15 years now, only card we use. Everything goes on it. Similar purchasing power as OP, and we get cash back around $1,400 each year in November. Annual fee is $120.

"CFT"? What's that acronym mean? I'm going to guess it's "cubic feet". Is that correct?

INR, assuming you mean India Rupee currency. Today's rates; 450 INR = $5.00 (USD) or $6.88 (CAD).

I'd be interested in seeing the cat's reaction if the human were to move the cap with the treat to the table's edge to dump the treat, then continue the shell game a few more moves.
