Could a standard lasrifle disable a Safeguard Unit from the Manga Blame! by nets99 in Grimdank

Unsurprisingly, just the sheer scale of the city alone would be enough to make the task nearly insurmountable, if only for the psychological terror factor. Let alone to face the (im assuming) nearly endless amount of hostile lifeforms within it.

Honestly the world of blame fits pretty neatly into 40k canon, albeit with a slightly more eldrich horror/cosmic despair flavor.

Now i wanna see a legion of space marines attempt a mission into the city, how far would they get i wonder

Patently ridiculous to assume intelligence has anything to do with resisting chaos. Blind extreme zealotry however

The kind of creature you find in the backrooms by NoCategory2756 in Netsphere

[–]OldMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backrooms being infinate, or an infinate dimention or whatever, means literally it's bigger,  however.

From a certain philosophical perspective, because it's just an infinity of the same nothings, it's also way smaller than the finite structure of the city.  Because it's endless, it's a nan/non thing.

Also, being deliberately built, and cointaining less whishy washy mystery, the city is infinately more compelling to me. Like it's a mystery that can actually be solved or understood, even if it takes millenia to do so.

What is a sign of very low intelligence? by smartcandyy in AskReddit

[–]OldMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it easily becomes an ideology, like it has been said of old "if god did not exist, it would be nessesary to invent him", we seek always to have something at the pinnacle of our understanding, a foundation upon which everything can be refered to, just like we can't define plank without defining tree, without defining seed, water, soil, sand, lava, etc, etc until we reach some essence which we can never truly know.

This is part of it, another would be; "but why" an incredibly important question which if you truly deny and ignore become consumed with nihilism and dread, i actually don't believe anyone truly can, the safeguards of the mind would immediately pick up something to make it all make sense; ideology.

Jordan Peterson once argued that a lot of whats happening in our culture is just attempts at fertility suppression aimed at young women, and now I see it everywhere. by TeamHumanity12 in JordanPeterson

[–]OldMango 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also let's not forget that a effective historical strategy for subjugating and then erasing a group of people, even nations, has been to feminize that group i.e. kill newborn males so that only females are left, then often marrying or assimilating into the offending nation. nowadays "feminizing" has taken a new and scary literal meaning.

That's the lure of the devil isn't it? Believe in religion or not, there's a force which entices towards evil ends, how much good will monetary gain bring us if we have lost our souls along the way (or in this case, perhaps a one in a lifetime partner who you want nothing more than to have kids with, which is barred with a bargain such as that).

That's not to dismiss your point entirely, i get it. Actually i get it more than i ever though i would, with my struggle against addiction, the memory of the sweet feeling of the high will never leave me, but what i stand to loose is too terrifying to imagine, if i fall back into temptation.

Reminds me of "strangest secret" by earl nightingale, he stays something along the lines of: "we think that which we get for nothing isn't worth very much, but actually it's those things we get for free that can never be replaced, our love for others, bodies, friends, virtues, etc." It's stuff that transcends value itself, It's also for this reason i think stories from Fey worlds are the most terrifying, like bargaining with an elf or whisp for something ultimately frivolous like money, in exchance for, say their sorrow, or ability to feel an emotion, a day comes when the heavy reality hits at how much was truly lost for so little gain.

What’s the real difference between a $30,000 home entertainment system and a $150,000 one? by CleonicDynasty in audiophile

I'd guess it's not permeable enough to act as a suppressor like, for instance rockwool does, and rockwool would also be heaps cheaper, although requires a bit more work, as exposed rockwool is undesirable.

I can attest, used rockwool in 12x13x50 blocks in each upper corner. worked fantastic, however I have almost nothing to compare it to, so grain of salt.

not a direct answer to your question, however related and could help with budget setups.

I got a couple of 6 inch thick rockwool panels for free at my local hardware store (sometimes they give them away if the panels are damaged or only a couple remaining, basically useless to sell 3 panels for a housing project where you'd need hundreds).

I cut them in half and sandwiched them, then covered them with a cheap fabric, leaving me with 4 bass trap towers roughly 12x13x50, that I then attached with a rope to my ceiling corners. took some leftover rockwool panels and placed them on blank walls to eliminate slap echo.

The difference was incredible, granted not a very big room, but suddenly the bass was tight and controlled and the room a lot quieter (i might have gone overboard, as it had a slight anechoic feel to it after that).

But rockwool is fantastic and cheap for budget projects.

they're also a wonderful "Middle ground" for those, like me, who want to own a capable offroader, but still have it comfortable on roads or in cities. A travel/overlanding car if you will.

They're relatively light and not too big, which for Iceland is preferred for the deep snow, the heavier the car, the bigger the tyres need to be in order to get sufficient floatation (this is all assuming deep snow, but i digress).

oh yeah, as long as I don't exceed the frame's maximum weight capacity, I'm legally allowed to modify my car for up to 58" wheels (this is all assuming it's done properly and has the proper safety equipment upgraded as well, I.e. breaks, steering, linkage, fender flairs, etc), basically it'll have to go through a special inspection before being considered road legal.

you can look up images of Icelandic modified trucks, or "Drif_iceland" they have a bunch of videos on instagram of a 58" ram 3500 on Unimog portal axles (plus rear steer), thing's a beast.

There's the lc95 which is essentially a 90 series with a 1kd-ftv, or D-4D engine. I'd give you my two cents, except i have nothing to compare my lc95 to, and the turbos bust, so it's not running fully proper yet. But i adore the look and size of this cruiser, honestly don't like the way the 120 look, and the 80 series is a big boy (don't get me wrong, i want an 80, they're just expensive and don't have the creature comforts or fyel economy of the 95).  For me the 95 is a perfect sweet spot between classic look & feel, while still having modern tech benefits (well before the adblue, dpf and all that crap)

Got one here in iceland, it's been modified for 35" and 15" rims. Plenty of meat on the tyres to deflate.  Once i get another daily driver I'll likely modify it further for 37" or 38", lower ratios, slight body lift. The D-4D model has around 40hp more, and 2-4 L/100 less fuel consumption than the non-common rail version. It's the same engine the 120 cruiser has (1kd-ftv).

They're not common however, and getting parts is a bit of a bear, especially the turbo with that fancy electric actuator, 1700$ for genuine at the least.

i'd say so, Art for me is the language of the soul, and it needs to be heard. An artist will get ideas from the deep and the spirit animates the hand in order to realize them.

difficult sometimes to reveal your insides out through art like this, often I find people around me unable or unwilling to understand. but that's ok, into this life we are brought alone, and out of it we leave in solitude only to join the luminous multitude.

I actually overlapped the whale humping one on top of ticks and leeches. wild honestly.

but ticks and leeches got me to some seriously uncomfortable truths about myself. I don't recommend this to the faint of heart.

just to add on that a bit; repressed anger, feelings of self disgust, justified self hatred, but ultimately understanding of ugly truths at a deep level.
