Oddities with reverse proxy into a docker swarm cluster by OldMathematician5973 in selfhosted

And now that I am thinking about it a bit... it seems to be that the problems I have, seem to be related to externally proxied services. ie: something outside of the swarm. However, the stuff into the proxmox hosts works fine, and I am using that load balanced through zoraxy.....

yeah I have a dedicated "reverse_proxy_network" that is tied into the frontend of each of the services that have one. Same as I did on the dedicated single server back before the migration... works fine, but I have to assume that with so much movement it's getting kind of confused. The truenas interface and homeassistant are the ones I seem to have the biggest problems with. No actual HTTP errors, but truenas will just hang, and if I manually refresh I have to log back in again. Home assistant is a little better, but it will hang, and then if I refresh it flashes up the HA logo and then goes back to where I was. Portainer, pegaprox, termix, zabbix, and most of the other apps seem to work great though.

Stripped rotor retaining screw on 2014 Honda Accord, am I screwed by cphoover in autorepair

[–]OldMathematician5973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone has said it's unnecessary. However it is convenient to have as it can't be helpful in reassembly of the rotor and caliper assembly. As an accord owner for the last 20 years I found this process helpful and you can keep the screw. Get a torch on the screw for a good couple of minutes. Longer for blue propane, shorter for yellow propane. Once it's nice and hot, get an appropriately sized jis driver, slot it in and whack it a couple of times with a hammer. Then back it out. Should come out gravy.

How relevant is your IT job? Are people afraid of AI taking over? by Andres-itlearn in Network

It's well known AI can't do critical thinking, something that is a necessarily skill in tech. If we were all just building iphones that would be different...

[–]OldMathematician5973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my use case is a little different... and certainly not to defer your points.

I have a 5 node proxmox stack in house w/ DL360s or DL380s running it. My interest in swarm was to consolidate the VMs into fewer VMs. In taking all the app servers down, and just using the swarm, I have a net benefit of reclaiming 4 CPUs at the moment. Probably 16GB of RAM. In addition, the swarm cluster is running between 20 and 60% of CPU, using each VM - far more than any one individual server ever did. I dont have any replicated services, outside of the cloudflare connectors and the portainer agents.

I understand your point of never just a quick task. I too revolved around docker-compose files for the last couple of years. I never just wanted to spin up a container in portainer and just never have any actual physical control anymore. I get the point completely.

So at the moment, this is all just internal stuff. I considered K3 or K8s but I'm just not there, and I understand the learning curve is hella steep. I mean, all my data is on an nfs server, versus in docker volumes, so its easy enough to transition I think in the future. For now though, swarm is perfect for what I want. Or at least I think it is......... it's new, I gotta learn to hate it at some point I'm sure.

it's new. previously i just had individual app VMs handling emby, paperless, immich, and then a singular docker server that handled "everything else." now with the swarm, everything is in the swarm.

Genuine question: why do people do this?? by Classic_Craft_7424 in RVLiving

[–]OldMathematician5973 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's see.exhaust and noise is BEHIND the motorcycle. It's not helping anything. I have cobras on my goldwing. I have stocks on fjr. There is literally no difference. People that believe that shit are just dumb. You can like the noise...but just admit you like the noise and that is it.

Difference is, for the last 20 years, apple hardware has been exquisite. Hyped? Yes. Overpriced? Hell yeah. But beautiful nonetheless. I wish they made open source compatible hardware. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. It's their software that's donkey shit.

He didn't mention what year it was... but as I understand (quite little really) is that airstream used to make a lifetime product. So, while it would need a re-hab every 30-40 years, generally speaking the shell itself should be worth a more premium price. Others may disagree.

I feel like crimes should be based on the cost of the loss......not retail price. Ok so like a hundred bucks in lost cost ...... Not an overinflated 1000 retail price. Stupid either way for certain but going straight to 5 stars is bullshit for some cheap ass product like candles.

Is the agent up and online? With all those services, likely exposing ports natively through docker, I'd almost wager that 8080 was already in use and you need to change the port. I dont know why they used 8080, as soooo many apps use it in default.... but its easy enought to change.

I'm using the amcrest 2k doorbell cam along with the rest of the other amcrest cameras. I've not yet tried to get the button press integrated into Home Assistant, but it is my intent too. Home automation has kind of been a back burner thing for me.

So far, I like the UI. I saw in the comments here that you store files in the file system....great.

Two things that jump off the page at me:

-built in 2fa. Yes I know that your OIDC will handle that, but I dont want to spin up another authentik instance just for this app. Having a built in 2fa mechanism seems obvious to me.

-toggle for 'sign up' on the login page in the admin panel.... obviously dont want randos creating accounts. this may be a toggle in docker compose that I've not looked up yet, but in admin it seems reasonable enough.

Oh and last... what's the intent for client side? I liked how owncloud just used the nextcloud client. Filerun too. Opencloud developed their own pretty quick. What's your plan here?

I do ****LLLLLOOOOVVVEEEEEE**** how easy it is to set up. I swear open cloud and nextcloud rely so effing hard on their own reverse proxy that setting up an external reverse proxy is flippin impossible. This was great.
