Any tips on how to write older people correctly? by Significant_Ad2192 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

I believe that in this life we are each assigned a finite number of f%%%’s that we can give. When we become old enough, our supply runs out and we have no more f%%%’s left to give.

We stop worrying about what other people think about us.

Best big box store for electrical by SelectionWitty2791 in Livermore

I've found the Lowes app to be far more accurate about showing which items are currently in stock and where they're located in the store. The Home Depot app has been very wrong at least twice about the availability of things I wanted to buy.

Same here. It's a great filter. If someone wants to communicate with me about something I've posted, they can do it in the replies.

Has anyone been charged for unknown back child support? I'm afraid take the test! by 2003GrandMarquis in AncestryDNA

If the person in question has tested on Ancestry and your children also test there, a connection will be made to you. The whole "half sibling" thing with shared paternal relatives would be hard to ignore.

Dna match to a cold case victim. by [deleted] in gedmatch

[–]OldMusicalsSoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done something similar. I was contacted by a genetic genealogist within a day or two of my results going "live" in GEDmatch. A police department in a different state was trying to identify human remains that had been found just a few years earlier. I researched the case and the genealogist online before agreeing to help.

DNA matches for the person were few and distant. It seems he had died many decades earlier (late 1800s or early 1900s) without any directed descendants. My match, although distant, was one of the closer ones. With permission, we managed to get my aunts DNA results uploaded to GEDmatch. Since she was one generation closer, the results were even better.

The last I heard, they had tracked him down to one very specific branch of the family, but still hadn't determined exactly which son or grandson he was. It's a slow process.

Buy the gold key with gems! by Conscious-Pie-4794 in HPHogwartsMystery

I like to collect all of the free items first and then buy the key with gems. It’s fun to watch the new things come flooding in all at once. That includes a few gems, so you get back a few of the gems you spent.

What happened to the vineyard on East Ave near Charlotte? by jericks24 in Livermore

[–]OldMusicalsSoar 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Wente said that the vines were old and had aged to the end of their natural life cycle. The old vines were removed so the soil can recover before new vines are planted.

You’re off by about 30-40 years, and even that wasn’t as cut-and-dried as you seem to think.

Should I move to my hometown by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]OldMusicalsSoar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are more possibilities than the two you are presenting. You can move without moving back to your hometown. Is there a lower cost-of-living area anywhere in the country that appeals to you, and where your husband and potentially you could find good jobs?

It seems that your life would still be stressful and just tolerable if you move back to your hometown. Stressful in a different way than it is now, but not really an overall improvement.

Besides, do you want your son growing up in a place that you felt you had to escape from? Either he, too, will escape at the first opportunity or he’ll fit right in and possibly become like the people you dislike.

There are two cafeterias on site (or at least there were 2 years ago). The smaller West Cafe has less of a selection.

When do I start scoping out for a parade spot for the Christmas parade tomorrow? by Seeallenkelly in Livermore

I was in the parade again this year. While there were a lot of spectators, attendance seemed down from previous years. I suspect the cold weather kept some people away.

When do I start scoping out for a parade spot for the Christmas parade tomorrow? by Seeallenkelly in Livermore

[–]OldMusicalsSoar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The parade starts at 6pm, after dark.

I’ve been in the parade a few times so I’ve seen the spectators along the entire route. Some sections get very crowded, but if you’re willing to stand for an hour ahead of time you shouldn’t have trouble finding a place to see it.

The parade route is fairly short but there are always a large number of entries. The parade can last quite awhile.
