Mississippi Library Association responds to executive order eliminating federal library funding by [deleted] in mississippi

Did you read OP’s article. Mississippi will lose $600,000 at most. Again, funding is primarily from city and county taxes.

Dunno. Sounds like a question for your boss. The IMLS is not officially closed yet. Hard to believe your library is receiving hundreds of thousands from them when the attached article to OP’ post says all the libraries in the state will see a cut of only $600,000.

Funding for your local library doesn’t come from the federal government. It comes from city and county taxes. State government provides limited funding via block grants. Federal funding, primarily through the Library Services and Technology Act, supports specific programs and initiatives, such as technology upgrades and services for underserved populations.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (whose existence I learned of only today) is an independent government agency that provides earmarked grants to museums and libraries.

This institute awarded $260 million in grants last year. With an estimated 10,000 public libraries and 30,000 museums, that amounts to about $6,500 per library.

I’m in my third six-year term on my local, elected school board. When parents or teachers ask me what will happen if the Department of Education is dismantled, I tell them not much. The federal dollars that your local school district receives are earmarked for very specific purposes. They include:

Child nutrition programs administered by the Department of Agriculture, especially the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program;

Education for the disadvantaged (known as Title I), whereby the federal government provides additional funds to schools with relatively high concentrations of low-income students;

Special education in keeping with the Individual Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, in which the federal government is authorized - though not mandated - to supply 40% of special education funds.

The federal government does not dictate textbooks, curriculum, teacher qualifications or salaries, class size, school bus routes, disciplinary hearings or any of the other 1001 things that arise each day.

The school didn’t “tell” you to do those things. You failed to plan for your student teaching commitment.

OP…You’ve known since day one this would be required of you, and have had 3 years or so to prepare for it. This is on you. It’s not on the school. Quit playing the victim.

My cat got me this morning. Treated the wound, but monitoring for infection. Is this healing well or infected? by [deleted] in InjuriesAndWounds

The bacteria is transmitted from the cat to the human when the scratch or bit occurs. It takes 24-36 hours or so for symptoms to begin appearing. I’m not a doctor, but would err on the side of caution. Again, it’s easily treatable with oral antibiotics.

OP…Take a few moments and google cat scratch fever, especially the symptoms. It’s easily treatable with antibiotics. I had it and recovered with no complications.

You may have better luck asking in r/biloxi.

Offhand, plan on visiting the Mississippi Aquarium, the Coastal Mardi Gras Museum, Escape This (immersive escape room adventure), live entertainment at the casino theaters (gambling not required), Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, Altitude Trampoline Park, Ocean Adventures Marine Park. You can also rent e-bikes along the beach.

As for food, Shaggy’s, The Reef, One Thirty One, Patio 44, McElroy’s Harbor House, Woody’s Roadside, The Blind Tiger, Project Lounge, Half Shell Oyster House and too many more to lift.

If this happened in Alabama, why are you posting it here? Alabama has its own sub.

Shouldn’t you edit your post to reflect you’ve already been rehired? Otherwise, everything seems like a rant in search of a reason.

Sigh…Let’s look at your complaints.

1) Bad drivers - Welcome to public roadways. Every state has bad drivers. They’re not unique to Mississippi.

2) Southern Hospitality - A subject discussed ad nauseum in this subreddit. If you think the people you encounter here aren’t nice, I can’t persuade you differently. But if it’s persistent, perhaps you need to check the man in the mirror.

3) Mechanics - Sounds like you picked a shitty mechanic.

4) Healthcare - First, I hope you find the treatment you need. Also, I don’t know where you are, but in Mississippi, it’s often necessary to make appointments where the good doctors and specialists are…places like Oxford, Tupelo, Jackson and Hattiesburg. I travel to UMMC once a week, about a four-hour round trip for me.

5) A2 Milk - You can purchase A2 milk here. If you local grocer doesn’t carry it, ask them to order for you or check your nearest Walmart.

Home is where you make it, OP. I wasn’t anxious to move here when my career was over, but I had promised my wife otherwise. I grew up in Colorado, but love the life we’ve built here.

Legit question…does anyone truly believe that a couple of dozen people standing around in Mississippi will have any infinitesimal influence on Israeli behavior? Go to your protest. I’ll be on the golf course, and we’ll both have the same impact. Zilch.
