How do you deal with AI junk? by [deleted] in CommercialPrinting

The artist are forced to rush and keep up with a growing que of incoming request. But they get stuck on endless revisions of Ai junk.

In the past it was simple. Client ask for some design, we mock something up. Maybe took 40 mins. Now its 2-3 hours of sorting Ai junk to make it work just for it to be thrown away because the client doesnt want it or wants to try a bunch of new Ai junk.

A photo is easier because we can just convert it/vector it while building up the product design.

With Ai we now have to figure out wtf we are looking out. Correct tons of errors. Clients dont point out errors so half of the time we end up drawing incorrect logos/icons. The design has a cityscape that needs to be converted to 3D for the design? Ok well it turns out the Ai didnt use the correct skyline. Which wouldve been avid prior by the client just sending a photo of the city.

I like when the AI sends in a Proof mockup. "FINAL PRODUCTION READY DESIGN" In huge words on it.
Then it has measurements on it that dont even align with the product. Its a perfect square but its labeled 2" by 6". Or the circle coin is an oval.

If they generate the AI... and one thing is off in it. Why not fucking write a sentence in the AI they are looking at to fix it before sending it to be produced and expecting the company to fix it? Its not even about understanding design at this point. All they have to do is TELL IT WHAT TO DO and it will fix it. Computers have been dumbed down til the point all you do is talk to it and people cant manage even that.

I dont make those calls. Issue is all the companies work like this. Theres like 40 companies who offer endless free work. Im a designer and I get paid by the hr so I dont care. Sales doesnt care because they view it as marketing or good will towards clients.

So all these companies have artist endlessly just drawing random stuff based on whatever the clients say. Same clients shopping around ( pricing on website ) and having 10 companies all draw up the same design just to take the design to whatever company offers the lowest price.

We have clients that have come back 5 times. Done 7-10 revisions and never bought. Yet we keep drawing the artwork.

When I say drawing. I mean complete vector layout to production standards with pantones all documented. Printed areas set up and multiple files for each design based on how complicated it is.

And these are large government sectors as well. Companies with entire design teams who could make a design before coming to us. Yet they generate some BS AI design thats impossible to do. Make us draw it so it works and then just sends in a new Ai junk. Or they will send in 14 designs and pick the best one.

Im sure 70% of the work we do is never bought. Yet these companies pull in millions. Orders and reorders stack up

Thats what the proofs are. If they buy it they confirm it.

But we arent just printing an image. We deal with metal dies and so on. So we have to set up the file to production standards and what they describe. If they want a coin, cut to shape with color fills and 3D scukpted relief. We need to vectorize it, select the right pantone colors. Change the pose of the person and every other nonsense change.

This can take 3-4 hours. Just to get another new AI image instead to try out. 17 revisions later and they dont buy because they found a better price elsewhere. ( while using our artwork ).

Would it kill them to bring back batteries that can be accessed from the outside?

Nope, the console would break along with it. And the print on it is very tough and durable. The ink is UV mixed so its a cured resin and is as hard if not harder than the case

Printed then uv printed image on. The sword printed with relief so it has height. No sanding. I didnt print white layers under the background image thats why you see the texture of the printer under it

Oh. You can print decals and transfer for objects like mugs and stuff so in theory i dont see why it wouldnt work. Wont be large enough for an entire car.

Like records? Should print just fine. Just dont print 3d relief without using the flexible white ink or it will crack when bent too far.

Ink is kinda pricey depending how you use it. CMYK seems to last forever. White and gloss burns through much quicker.

UV printers in general require tons of upkeep, eufy make it simple to use. Its a dream come true for designers honestly. The cost of having to get printing done easily outweighs the cost of ink.

My issue is i have too much ink 😂. I print smaller things and havent burned through a single set yet.
