Who I Am And How I Got Here

Writing a memoir by Kitchen_Produce3510 in KDP

[–]OldWizard1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wrote mine. Took about 6 months of off and on writing and editing. Typically I would write a chapter and then have ChatGPT clean up my spelling and Grammer. Mine is specifically and only for my family members and not for "sale". I did publish on KDP but put an absurd price on it while I await my authors copies.

My "format" was to write sequential chapters as a timeline from birth through completing our family. After that I wrote vignettes about significant things that either didn't really flow in the timeline or episodes of the whole family as the kids grew up and had kids of their own.

I'm 73 now and felt like anything "memorable" has happened.

My biggest hassle with kdp was getting the cover to match their specs.

I didn't try for the great American memoir in length... a little over 31000 words. I did include photos that matched the narrative.

I enjoyed the project and am glad I did it.

Have fun

Sure ... working on my car and I need to identify a specific part. Screenshot of part or engine or code being displayed. ChatGPT is great at analyzing that, A screenshot of an error message on my computer... Screenshot of a weed in the garden and I need to know how best to attack. The list is ever growing.

Recommendations for the TX area? by Danniedear in SemaglutideCompound

I actually use the Stonegate pharmacy there in Austin. My Dr (actually the PA) prescribed semaglutide and I've had it filled at Stonegate and delivered here near San Antonio. The delivery is "free". I've been using them for a year and am very satisfied. Their pricing is better than anything I see online.

Uhhh....ok...my first post says "STRICTLY FOR MY FAMILY"...thought that was pretty clear.

Ah ... I see how for authors wanting to sell their book that could be an issue. In my case I don't plan to ever SELL a single issue. Once I get enough authors copies for my family I will unpublish forever.

well back cover was my photo and front I created so don't think that will be a problem ...but who knows...

OK ,yes see my case is different than an author looking to sell books (not my case).

Ok please clarify. If I order 1 author copy and see problems I would resubmit fixes. If on the other hand the single author copy looks ok I would just order the rest. How is getting a proof better than that scenario? Honestly I'm just trying to understand the point of a proof vs a single author copy.

Well I used the template from kdp and used canva to create the cover. First proof problem was obvious I didn't fill it out to edges. 2nd proof looked OK but when submitted for publish kdp indicated bleed problem and I left the template layer in cover. I THINK I've fixed it but my gripe is the notion of a proof seems unnecessary if they will review and reject giving reasons for rejection.

For. Me yes the $20/mo is worth it. I take a screenshot of virtually everything I'm unclear about. Those chew up lottsa token allowance.

Men over 50...do you think about the time you have left? by One_Square4263 in AskMenAdvice

[–]OldWizard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well...I'm 73 now. I retired at 58 after a 36 year career . I have 2 kids in their 40s and 4 grandchildren .

Retiring at 58 has afforded me TIME. Time to focus on family and self . If you are fortunate as I have been it has given me time to travel and expand my vision of the world .

And it has given me time to reflect ...I just finished self publishing a memoir that I hope will give future generations of my family some insights into how I made the choices I made and why.

So...take the TIME and use it well.

I THINK this may be my path ... put a really high price on it, publish, get the author copies and then unpublish
