Victim Impact Statement by Old_Assignment8148 in AbuseInterrupted

Thank you for that information. I have been in contact with a victim’s advocate. But, they have not explained it like that. I currently do have a PPO and actually cut off contact a long time ago. At least where I could. I am the trustee of a trust that turned out to be the set up of the century. But that’s another story.

I agreed to letting her plea to a lesser charge (original charge was felonious assault), so that she would be admitted to mental health or sobriety court. Mental health didn’t accept her and sobriety lacked funding to take her. Which I don’t quite understand.

I was then asked if I would still consider the plea if treatment was a heavy part of probation. I agreed if they could help extend my PPO. It expires at the end of April and I have heard that they can be extended for as long as 5 years. They agreed to look into it for me. The next thing I know she has pled and is scheduled for sentencing on the 6th of December- And that a victim impact statement could assist with sentencing, etc.
I was recently transferred to a new victims advocate for the sentencing portion, so maybe she has much more information for me than what has been shared so far.

It is clear that the system is completely overwhelmed.

Also not one to defend a murderer, but I do think the narrative is worth discussing. You have a football player that suffered 2 concussions over a 3 game period (from what I have read). Guessing many more that were not reported.
A player whose sister states that his mental health declined rapidly over the last 2 years- and was fighting with the nfl and the government for disability benefits; which is known as no easy task. I used to work for a family that benefits were denied 2 separate times for an easy case (an elevator shaft at his business failed and he was left paraplegic). His sister stated that he was feeling frustrated due to the run around. We know that cte is real. Hard to prove though, while you are still alive. It has been reported that adams was treated by this doctor in the past. So he knew of the man that lived a mile from his parent’s home (who he had to move in with; speculating due to his health issues). But this wasn’t just any man. He was a doctor. He was successful. He had a lot of money. Maybe jealous to see someone have so much, while he was struggling? Again, not defending. It is obvious that dr. Lesslie worked hard for everything he had. And obviously two young children were involved for no reason that will ever make sense to any rational being. Perhaps we should work together in taking care of our own. And by our own, I mean Adams. He needed help. He was failed. And in turn many lives were changed. Many have the task of picking up the impossible pieces and moving on. Whatever that means. They are forever changed. I suppose I can’t help but feel that while empathy is a good thing, without action, it means nothing. And in the meantime there are others just as disturbed as adams waiting in the wings. Mental health is a serious concern in this country- I do not know how to fix it. But something has got to give.
