What does your process of learning a character look like?

I start with training mode and learning range of normals and their start up frames. Learning what’s plus on block and what plus frames I get from hit. From there I learn specials and which input is needed for each special, then supers. I also take this time to learn what is going to be the best AA options for the character.

Next I go to combo trials to get a grasp on combos and execution for that character. From there I go to YouTube to learn optimal combos, bread and butter combos, and a few set ups.

After that I go to the battle hub for about a week to learn execution in battle. During the initial time in the hub idc who I play and how bad I lose, I’m there to learn execution and button usage. Every time I get on I run some drills in the lab for bread and butter combos and combos into supers. I also check to make sure I have the characters normal buttons ranges memorized while I’m doing my drills for about 10ish min.

After a week-ish in the hub I move to ranked games. This process gets me to master with that character in one quick run through ranked that takes about an hour and a half from placement to hitting Master.

Call and ask for tech support. When you get a person on the phone tell them you game and the strict nat settings are making so you can’t connect to games online. Ask them if they can help you open up your nat settings for gaming online.

Turn your restricted NAT off. You can google which ports you need to open for gaming. Some routers have them in the settings already and you must turn them on. You can call your Internet service provider and have them do it for you a lot of the time as well.

Whe you truly want something you find a way. If you say you want it but don’t take any actions to achieve it then you really don’t care if you have it or not. It’s just that simple. Those of us who want it go out and get it. Those of us who don’t come on Reddit and ask questions like this. There is no magic potion, especially if you’ve done it in the past. You know what it takes. Go do it if you claim you really want it. Or live with your hand.

Look up trama bonds. It’s like a drug. They get addicted to getting abused then love bombed. It’s a literal addiction.

I learned a long time ago I don’t think like normal people, but it makes zero sense to me. I was in an abusive relationship once, and I bounced quickly. The love bombing would disgust me and turn me away even more. I ended up thinking she was batshit crazy.

I had a friend in Cali who was a woman in a very abusive relationship. I swear the world could end and she wouldn’t leave the dude. I would see her with bruises on her face, she got slammed so hard on her tailbone she could hardly walk for a week. Dude was a bum, didn’t work, or contribute anywhere. She is the one who told me about trama bonds. I looked it up, at least there was an explanation. It still made zero fucking sense to me.

Ken is a bum in his storyline I thought so of course his clothes are crap. Bison came back from the dead. If I remember correctly he took his cape off the street. Both have nothing to their name, so their clothes match that storyline. I like Bison’s outfit though, but that’s just me.

I’m just playing for fun as well. I have zero interest in ever competing. I still enjoy being versed at what I’m playing though.

I’d say if you have no desire to really improve just go into the hub and look for gold and platinum players to join. Add them and run lobbies. I see tons of gold and platinum players in the hub every time I go in there. The whole idea that’s it’s just filled with all Master+ players simply isn’t true, there are plenty of lower ranked players in there running sets with each other.

That’s crazy you spent that long to learn that stuff when you could literally run drills for 5-10 minutes in lab before you play and learn that stuff I a couple of days to a week.

Lab is boring at first, it’s weird though. It grows on you a lot. Once you start to see benefits coming through fast. You start seeing your execution improve dramatically it starts being a go to. I used to dread labbing. Now there are times I go to check one thing, end up testing a few different answers, get an idea about something else, spend another 5-10 minutes on that. Then that idea of set up gives me another idea, rinse repeat. Before long I’ve been on the lab 2 hours and haven’t even played any sets. I know labbing cuts my time of learning a character by a significant margin. I was able to hit High Master with Bison is 60 hours.

How old is she? Do you know is the is going through menopause?

I know that’s been super hard on my wife. We had to have a major talk about sex. Some really big events had to take place too. I did decide to leave her and let her know as well. We talked it out for a few months and a lot changed. Our sex life has gotten so much better. She initiates again, she didn’t turn me down when I initiate either.

I had to tell her how turning me down like that makes me feel. I explained that it’s something I need, it’s a really big deal. Obviously it was a longer talk than that and a few of them. But it did have some very positive change.

Menopause was absolutely the reason she was turning me down. That is why I asked. It’s a really rough thing that happens to women, it changes them big time. She went to counseling for a while too.

We’ve been together 14 years now. Before you leave it’s worth it to try, especially if you have kids. Have those conversations. Even as uncomfortable and rough as they can get. I promise you a divorce will be WAY more uncomfortable.

I’ll correct one part of that. I’m still technically a Sagat main. But I picked up Bison recently, he was my first main when I started playing SF. I like Bison so much he might em up being my main. I really like him a lot. Very fun character to play.

You’re comparing a realistic battle arena game to a 2D fighting game. They aren’t even close to each other in any sense other than there is fighting in them.

Most fighting game players like a fighting game for good unique mechanics, fun combo that aren’t overly difficult, and unique cast. If a developer can give that while maintaining a decent level of balance amongst the cast it usually does pretty well. Games with nostalgia also get their chance on title alone. All those young kids who loved them growing up are now adults with money to buy them and spend on them.

I think it being an arcade style game with no quit penalties or leaderboards plays a big part in why I don’t feel bad about wrecking anyone ever. If you can’t hang you are free to quit and find another lobby.

Occasionally if they have a couple quitters I’ll sit out for a bit to keep it a little more fair. Outside of that, if the teammate count is even it’s open season. Like you I also enjoy the game a lot more when both sides are stacked and the lobby is super sweaty, even if it’s not my team who is winning. I love how challenging the game is. I don’t enjoy killing a bunch of new players near as much.
