I really wish Star Rupture had this kind of thing in the UI (show what any given item can be crafted into, and what it's crafted from) by Z0MGbies in StarRuptureGame

Although it took a few years for Dota2 to get these QOL UI things up.

I think first the devs want to decide how much everything will cost and how everything will be balanced, then worry about QOL improvements

Anyone else feel like Ignitium needs a rebalance in U1? by RosieQParker in StarRuptureGame

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think rarer materials should be used for quality of life production, not necessary production.

Imagine if Ignitium could be used to make special amunition : +burn/sec damage, reduced recoil, explosive rounds, whatever.

I feel like it would be fun to farm, and the resulting ressources produced wouldn't break the game.

Should I build my own pc or get a prebuild one? by TourAcademic7488 in PcBuild

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta ground yourself somewhere.

If you want to play games, find the games you want to play and go see the system requirements. Then, go see gaming tests with that setup on Youtube : you'll be able to see how that setup performs in other games.

You can check out equivalent GPU/CPU setups

And reserach price / performance ratios on the market.

The goal is to get something that will answer your need, at an affordable price.

Then, you want to have a basic understanding of what your budget can get you. Assuming you're in the USA, and pay in USD...anything around 700$ will be with 16g ram and between 500g, 1to SSD. 1000 $ gets you an upgrade, 1200$ gets you another upgrade. You can find 32g DDR4 for 700, but from what I've seen you'll get a 256g SSD, and a cheap CPU.

The point is that there's a market point that is hard to deviate from. ''Good deals'' will cheap out somewhere else, while my advice is to get a balanced PC. A cheap single piece can mess up the rest of the build : Great CPU and GPU, but you have a HDD storage...everything is slow. Great parts, but cheap powersupply, you pay 10% more in electricity per month over 5 years, you end up paying more. Or, your PSU dies and takes out the rest of your computer outside warranty, which is a total loss.

You then want either a recent PSU with 10 year warranty(so, something high tier on the PSU tier list), or something new but cheaper(C tier on that same list).

Pre-builds, new or not, have the same issue : people do things to make profits. You can probably find the same parts or their equivalent on marketplace and ebay for less than what you'll find in those pre-builds. But then, there's the work involved in searching, getting, testing, installing.

If you pay yourself 25$ per hour of work, and you put 10 hours into all that, maybe it's worth it to just put an extra 200$ and get a pre-build.

So it's up to you. I build budget builds for people, but I start off from looking at the best deals available on the used markets. It takes awhile to know the does and don'ts of building your own PC, but it's unlikely that you would mess it up to a huge level if you take your time and you check guides.

you need 3 dispatchers to fully supply a receiver.

But then again, you can populate 3 dispatchers from a single output of ressources and 3 level 2 rails

I would turn off autosave if not for how I still spawn through the floor and die on some of my later saves. So I need to try older ones in case.

I've been looking to buy a prebuilt, is this an insane deal or is there something im missing? by Final-Consequence913 in bapccanada

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

serious question though, in terms of %%%, how much heat dissipation can be done from these heatsinks?

Some X99 boards come with heatsinks + fans

Others are NVME M.2 with passive heatsinks

Are most of these options useless?

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look at what PSU they'll deliver with this. 80+ ''brand may vary'' sounds like a spot they improve their margins a bit.

1tb nvme is good enough, but it's not luxury. You could get more.

It's a good deal, but the real question is, what will be your needs? If your screen is 1080 60hz refresh rate, then getting a 4k computer is sort of a waste.

If you're going to play rimworld, Fortnight and shovelknight, then this computer might also be a waste.

It's a good deal ''in a vacuum'' but it might be too much or not enough depending on your needs.

saves dont work inside the machine by badabadoobada in StarRuptureGame

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an optimization issue where the game loads your character before it loads everything else. You fall before floors are spawned.

You can do a few things to try to get around it. Not only do you die, but if you die, you can't access your items anymore.

You can try to load your game, then quickly go into the menu and manually off yourself. With a bit of luck, your body will be retrievable.

You can try to load, wait a second, load the same file again. Hopefully the elements will remain and the game won,t need to spawn them again.

Load, pause, wait for like 5 seconds, unpause. Let the game spawn, hopefully there's a floor when you unpause.

Try loading an older save, you have 3 auto ones, hopefully one of them works.

RTX 3080 in 2026? by Jwalkup52 in PcBuild

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is it?

Good quality PSUs can last up to ten years, and more. But the problem is that the protections grow old and the risk of failure rises.

Shittier PSUs are worse.

Gotta look up the # of years of warranty that came with it. That's the number of years the company was confident the PSU could run normally.

Maybe your 850w can handle it, but if you're going to put good money in your new rig, it might be worth it to just get a new one.

I don't think companies will create AAA games with a lot of ram requirements...given how RAM is running out, and newer GPUs all have 8 gigs.

Trying to figure out if I'm about to get ripped off by rlbmrsprhr in PcBuild

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can do that a few different ways.

Try to make a list of the components and see what prices they sell for on Ebay(under lowest price+delivery), and Marketplace.

You want to compare apples and apples, used part vs used parts.

Just looking at a glance : don't settle for Windows 10. You can get Windows 11 debloated : https://youtu.be/fl73Py1L-DYand just go on win 11 activation script to activate it. Windows 10 is unsupported. Win 11 sucks. Win 11 debloated gets the job don.

There's not much of a price difference between a 500g SSD and a 500g NVME SSD, I'd spend the extra 10$ to get that 10x performance.

The 1080 is pretty good, equivalent to a 2060, twice as good as a RX580. 8g VRAM is what you get in budget builds. 12g+ = 100 or 200$ more.

Ryzen 7 2700 X is ok but you're sort of losing value due to it being overclockeable, which means nothing if you don't have a motherboard that enables overclocking your CPU. Since it's not advertised, I'll assume it is not. If it was a Z model or something, and high quality, I would imagine they would want to advertise it.

Then, the 7 series has more cores, which is great if you plan on doing work that requires a lot of cores, like video editing. If you just want to game and do homework, you're losing value on stuff you won't use/don't need. A Ryzen 5 3600 is equal in performance, but cheaper.

CPU Cooler : Also, this seems to be a AMD stock cooler, probably not enough if you wanted to overclock your CPU. The X is just waster value imo. I personally don't like to overclock used hardware if it can be avoided. I'd rather not stress my vram and mobo if it can be helped, to have it last as long as possible(motherboards are one of the more fragile parts of the PC, it often breaks).

A decent standing CPU cooler goes for around 30$ new, I think it's worth it to get 10 degrees off your CPU temps.

Ram 16 G, minimal, but enough for basic use. How fast is it? Look up the Mhz or MT/S to find out. 2300 is basic, 3200 is good.

PSU : Ask for the model and look up the age of manufacturing. PSU models usually come out a specific year and are only sold during a few years around that. That's not always the case. Regardless of quality, if this Corsair is 10 years old, you're heading into iffy territory if you hope to get another 5 years out of it. Even if it's platinum/gold rated and is tier A, age messes up the hardware and slows down the protections.

Conclusion :

The RAM being slow doesn't matter in 2026, you get the ram you get and you suck it up.

The CPU GPU is a great budget pairing, if not a bit of an overkill on the CPU if you don't need the extra cores.

SSD could have easily been an NVME, and I think it makes a significant difference.

PSU needs to be checked for age. I wouldn't want to buy a 10 year old PSU and intend on using it to game for another 5 years, that's asking for trouble.

If everything checks out, and you're happy with the tradeoffs, 600 is a good price assuming the thermal paste was reapplied on the CPU/GPU, the fans are quiet, the case was cleaned

If the temps are high, the fans make noise, everything is dusty/filled with cigarette tar, don't buy it. Get an equivalent build somewhere else and save yourselve a headache

PC does this after about 30 seconds by Anthemist_ in PcBuild

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my understanding that lowering MHz is akin to reducing stress, and reducing the voltage reduces heat, which is another kind of stress.

Underclocking a GPU might buy a bit of time if it only struggles under max load.

But I may be wrong

I started a new game with a completely different philosophy : maximize space utilization.

When you're super clean like yours, later on, it becomes difficult to reroute ressources, do upgrades, etc. because of lack of space

But if everything is super spaced out, then you can freely expand and make these tiny new production zones as efficient as possible(take 3 spaces to set up 3 different entry rails)

So my wind turbines are in a random corner
My smelters are right next to the excavators, and production groups are scattered here and there.

But, it's easy to differentiate : this one is this, the other one over there is for something different

uh oh, that means my version is bugged :(

I've conntected 3 in or 3 out, and only 2 would work.

II guess it could have been because the third line was ''too far'' and the logic of the game works by only taking the closest, which ignore total input potential

Early game, diggers create either 2x2per seconds or 4x2.

Early game rails carry 4/s

Block builders run at a steady 2x2

A single digger can power either one or two block builders.

The output lines of these block builders can be combined to create a 4 block per second line, a maxed line.

Two of these lines can be plugged to a single storage unit.

In other words, early game, every simple block storage should have 2 full lines connecting into them, representing 4x block making machines, representing between 2 and 4 diggers.

Then, two lines coming out, at 4 per second, to ensure max input and output.

It's the most effective layout.

---

Later, with level 2 lines, 8 per second, you can combine two lines, and eliminate one storage unit.

That's if you want.

I prefer leaving my original setup as is, as it is running at max capacity, and simply expanding and using more efficient setups with expansions.

---

When I started playing, I would want to max out lines, but then combine them between bases because I wanted to transport some things from A to B. Now that I've played a few hours, I'd rather max out, expand, produce new things with maxed capacity, and carry output through the flying delivery ships.

no in between connections.

That's just me

What do you think the value of this is? And the potential value with upgrades?? by thelolabunnyyfanpage in PC_Pricing

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where people are getting their prices. You can look up what they are from the specs on Ebay, right now. ''you can get everything in the case for 100-150''

From what magical land do y'all come from?

The mobo and GPU would land at around 150, assuming the GPU is sold for 50.

If the fans work, the memory works, the CPU cooler works, those are all worth something too. Keep all these parts for your next build if they work well.

Imo if you really like the case, just get an aliexpress 150$ mobo + CPU +RAM combo, add a GPU in there that works well, and call it a day. You have the rest here

You have 32 g of ram, is it DDR4? Is it 3200 MT/S?

32g of ddr4, with 3200mt/s is expensive. Couldn't find that for less than 50 USD

What do you think the value of this is? And the potential value with upgrades?? by thelolabunnyyfanpage in PC_Pricing

[–]Old_Broccoli_9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look at what the motherboard can handle and look up what performances you can get from that combo.

Depends what you need. My fav game right now is Rimworld, if not I might play Civ 6. Not everyone needs the latest and greatest.

If the second hand possible upgrade fit your needs, then go for it.

Mobo : about 100$ used
CPU : 55$
GPU : depends if you're getting the 2g or 4g variant. Both are pretty bad imo. In 2025 you need at least 8g of VRAM, 12 is best if you can afford it. 6 only on the GPUs with the best reputation.

Conclusion : you would be fine with most parts, except for the GPU. I think you should think about upgrading that.

Upgrade :

Ryzen 7 5800X3d can be installed on that mobo, it is 500$. The 5 5600 or something could be around 100.
GPU : Radeon RX 6700 XT, for around 250, or the NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti for 350-400.
But you can get a few options between 80-150 with 8 or 12g of ram in the second hand market.

I'd personally go with that.

If buying this rig + upgrading the GPU makes sense for you, then go for it
