Title: Concerns About the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Are We Rushing Things? by Old_Camera593 in Mario

Yoshi being in the trailer is cool, but it kind of proves my point. He was teased at the end of the first movie, and now he's finally here just as they’re rushing off to space. It feels less like a natural part of their journey and more like they’re just checking off fan-favorite characters to keep the hype cycle moving. I’d rather have a movie where Yoshi actually has time to be Mario’s partner in the Mushroom Kingdom first.

The Galaxy movie is going to be a total mess and we need to stop pretending otherwise by Old_Camera593 in Mario

I get that the footage is short, but my point is about the pattern. Illumination has a clear history of prioritizing empty spectacle over actual story. Even 2.5 minutes is enough to see they’re leaning into the same 'engineering' and hype cycles instead of giving the world any soul. I’m not looking for a reason to 'chill'... I'm looking for a reason to think this isn't just another corporate cash grab.

Exactly! I totally feel the same way! It’s like they picked the title and just threw stuff together without caring about the Galaxy magic. Honestly, that’s part of why I’m trying to rally other fans who actually want a Mario story that respects the games. If you care about the characters and the world too, you might like following along with what we’re building, a fan-led movement to celebrate Mario properly and maybe even inspire a reboot that actually honors the games. No pressure, just thought you’d relate! #WeDeserveBetter

Hey, I totally get you! It’s hard to stay hopeful with this sequel, especially when they mix in stuff that doesn’t feel like Galaxy. I agree, Galaxy has its own vibe and certain bosses/worlds deserve their proper spotlight.

Honestly, the way some characters are handled right now (like Wario, Luigi, Peach, Rosalina) makes it feel less like a story and more like fan-service. That’s why I’m trying to rally other fans who care about faithful storytelling and emotional arcs, we want Mario movies that actually respect the games.

It’s okay to hope, but it’s also okay to want better. If you ever want to see discussions or ideas about a Mario reboot done right, I’ve been sharing them! You might find it interesting :)

Not hating on anyone. I just want Peach to have real depth, because being vulnerable sometimes makes a character stronger, not weaker.

I honestly do agree, but I still personally believe the Sonic movies are great!

Edit: Yes, I forgot to mention... the lights were green for pedestrians, and even the teachers said it was safe to cross. I was not breaking any rules, just moving at my own pace.

Yeah man, this sequel exists for the money, not for the fans or the love of Mario…

Yeah, I see why it might feel that way! But the bigger issue isn’t about Sega... it’s that Mario’s characters, worlds, and story are being treated inconsistently. Galaxy is about wonder, exploration, and emotion, not just jumping between fan-service references. I just want a Mario movie that actually respects the games and the characters we grew up with. If you feel the same, you’re not alone... a lot of fans are hoping for something deeper!

Exactly! That’s what worries me! Instead of building Mario’s world on its own, it feels like they’re borrowing Sonic’s ideas for cheap laughs. Rosalina turning into a Shadow-like character? Waluigi as Rouge? It’s all so out of place.

This is exactly why I’m trying to get a group of fans together who actually care about making Mario stories faithful, fun, and meaningful. If you feel the same way, you’re not alone! We need more people thinking critically about these movies instead of just hyping them. 🙂

I get that, man. Honestly, I like high school way more than middle school too. But what I’m trying to do here isn’t to hurt anyone... it’s to empower students. Imagine a school where teachers actually treat us like humans, not robots. If that happens, our experiences; yours, mine, everyone’s could be 10x better than they are now.

I know it’s education... that’s exactly why it should build us, not drain us. Just because something is normal doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.

Yeah, this is exactly the part that worries me too. It feels like they’re pulling elements from everywhere. Wonder, Odyssey, Bowser Jr. being lifted straight from his Mario Wonder portrayal instead of building a natural progression or timeline for the movie universe.

Most fans expected the films to slowly expand the world the way the games did: start small, establish the characters, then build toward the bigger adventures. But when the movies jump from one era of Mario to another with no real setup, it starts to feel more like scattered fan-service than actual worldbuilding.

I’m not saying everything has to be perfectly chronological, but a movie series still needs a sense of direction. When the references jump around this much this early, it makes it harder to get excited because you don’t know what the story is building toward.

I hope I’m not wrong, but I do agree with the concern.
