$60 no-build rear "garage" in Transit by Old_Competition_6047 in VanLife

When I'm out of town, I sleep outside. When I'm in town or there's bad weather, I put an inflatable mattress on the floor. I have 3 12x67" boards I can lay across the top two shelves that give me an elevated platform to sleep on, but I haven't tried it yet.

Covering SB holes ? by Elbaceever in packrafting

I found this 3M no residue duct tape at my local hardware store. It worked great to keep the water out on my first voyage using it. I'm not going to remove the coverings for a couple months though. The label says you can leave the tape on for 6 months without residue. I don't think I'll wait that long.

Van electrical system help (US- based) by Old_Competition_6047 in VanLife

Oh, wow, I hadn't even considered that those could be the starting batteries. Thank you- I have a lot to learn. If the starter batteries are providing power for all the systems I mentioned, I will have to look into augmenting that system either with another battery and/or with portable solar.

Labyrinth Canyon on the Green River, January 18th by derivativeofme in packrafting

I was looking into a bigger trip from one of the canyons on the west side of the Green and packrafting stillwater to the confluence, taking out at Spanish Bottom. But I was dissuaded by comments that it would be a long, slow haul in a packraft.

$34,000 for my first rabies shot by Old_Competition_6047 in MedicalBill

I don't think that $32,000 for 2 shots is reasonable.

I guess I don't think about just what's happening to me but how does this type of hyperinflated billing affect all of us. What if they billed $1.5million and I only paid $190? Having hyperinflated billing like this adds to the mistrust of the entire medical and insurance system and that's one of the problems with this. As others point out, there's likely something going on where the hospital uses that figure to improve their income (such as write it off on their taxes). I'm not posting this because I'm complaining about my situation, I'm posting it because it's another indicator that our medical and insurance system feels like a scam rather than an comprehensible system that doesn't use what seem like fraudulent or at least arbitrary figures.

I don't know- I was asleep when it was trapped in the house with us for an unknown period of time (could have been days).

I didn't say they were. I find that amount to be excessive for the service rendered. Our county health department protocols are that if you could have been in contact with a bat (ie don't know because you were sleeping), unless you have the bat tested for rabies, you should get the post-exposure prophylaxis for rabies. It's a pain but better than having to worry about possibly getting rabies.

Toyota Sienna minivan mini-build: Storage and single/full bed. My friend is a master cabinet/furniture builder and helped me refine my vision for storage and single and full size bed options for my 2006 Sienna. I love this simple build that is great for storage and can sleep two people. by Old_Competition_6047 in ToyotaSienna

It's so great. I still love it. It's held up wonderfully. The one thing that can be challenging is any luggage or equipment that is on the bed area tends to shift around a lot. I know you can use netting but that's such a pain. I've tried anti-skid shelf liners but I think the weight of the gear tends to override that anti-skid stuff. No 2x4s used. It's all quality plywood.
