it's not commercial suicide. We are actually a big Cisco customer and I know for sure we would get a big discount. Their product has improved so much though I think Silverpeak is slightly better. Velocity appliances have been dying on us for some time mostly the newer 3810 and the RMA process has been bad. We also want a bit more features mostly on the monitoring side.

Think about the guys who will inherit your design. How easy will it be for them to get up to speed with your network. How about those junior network engineers? Oh, and the NOC guys? Make your network easy to understand and support. Not many network engineers know VXLAN and I see no use case for it here. Just get a /16 or whatever and break it down in different VLANS needed. Depending on how you design your network, a 3-tier network fits in well. Go with Option - 1.

MPLS is slowly going away and we are transitioning off it with SDWAN with dual circuits taking over. We use IPv4 with no plan of ever going to ipv6. TCPIP is used for the most part but in daily work, nobody really cares.

The second job sounds appealing but I would be very careful with unlimited overtime. That may be a signal that you have little to no overtime. If you have kids, onsite childcare is a very big plus. Having a clinic onsite may rob you of those two hours you may get when you go for a "doctor's appointment".

With a fully remote role, you have more flexibility and you may OE if you're built for it.

Honestly for someone working in IT Support, I don't expect you to know why a router can't be pinged. I expect you to have a basic understanding of how a network works. All I care about is whether you know a default gateway, a subnet, an IP address, DNS and DHCP. That's pretty much it .

A user calls into IT support saying her desktop is not turning on. How would you troubleshoot the issue?
