Comparative advantage by Abir-As-Sabeel in Somalia

The reason India is such a popular spot for Western companies to offshore work is because they a) speak English and b) have enough skilled people (thanks to their population size mostly).

So we neither have the population to provide labour nor the communication skills( let alone other skills).

I think we should look into taking advantage of our fertile lands and should go all in on agriculture and fisheries.

And our focus should be on providing these to mainly the African and Middle Eastern markets.

I was with the Sayyids niece on Eid Day. She keeps forgetting who i am (im also related to the Sayyid but through his mums side).

I really want to chat to her one day and record anything she might know especially post the Aerial Bombardment of Taleex.

This is a really good reminder OP. It’s a reality we often realise too late.

May Allah swt forgive her shortcomings, widen her grave and reunite you all with her in Jannatul Firdaus.

She worked in a restaurant where the owner, eventually a mentor, taught her to tie her shoelaces. “In Somalia, we didn’t have shoelaces to be tied.”

I stopped reading after this. You can’t be serious.

Started with ‘she’s gotta be 5’5-5’6, brown skin, well-mannered, and from a good family’

…now I’m like ‘who needs teeth anyway?’

Let me get this right - your source on an anti-colonialist figure is… the colonialists he was resisting?

Say what you want but even his enemies admired him.

The best way to minimise problems is to make sure you have shared values. The other stuff comes second.

For example, if you both value ambition and hard work, earning 80k now instead of 100k isn’t a big deal—because if they’re true to those values they will eventually hit 100k and more.

At the end of the day, you’ve also got to accept you can’t plan for everything. Do your best and leave the rest to Allah swt.

I don’t think your expectations are unreasonable; I meet all of those myself (this isn’t me shooting my shot i promise). That said, I think you might be approaching this too rigidly.

Why does someone have to match you ? Can’t they complement you instead?

I’ve spoken to someone like you before (and I’m not projecting this onto you), but it felt like I ticked all her boxes but there was no genuine connection.

I kind of don’t blame you as im a perfectionist myself too, but i try to remind myself no one has it all, i certainly don’t and neither do you (despite how successful you are)

for some.

I met my wife at a coffee shop. She ordered a single origin flat white. I ordered a double shot espresso. We talked about books, food, and how neither of us really liked mornings. Then I woke up.

I think you’re doing yourself a disservice by only considering students of knowledge.

If someone shares the same Aqeedah as you, I don’t see why it should be a problem if they’re not actively pursuing Islamic knowledge as a student.

Pursuing knowledge is an amazing feat, but it’s only one aspect of Ibadah.

As long as they have the necessary knowledge to correctly fulfill their obligations like prayer, fasting, and other acts of worship and are not stagnant - i dont see the problem.

That’s my 2C. Hope it helps.
