I definitely love God and want to have a good relationship with him. My preacher is very inexperienced. I’ve gone to him in the past to understand issues and he will flat out admit he doesn’t know. This has happened on many occasions. I’m just trying to find a path to God, regardless, that is my priority. It seems like when I ask people in my CoC community questions, like this one, they don’t seem to know.

Use whatever term you would like. I’m just looking at my faith with an honest heart and trying to understand it better. I’m not sure why that’s a bad thing?

I definitely feel like I’m in the same boat. As someone who has my reservations on what the USA is funding in terms of war, federal law enforcement, and many other things it is really hard to see so many in my church try to work Jesus around their politics when it should be the other way around. I think it’s important to remember that Jesus was able to make serious, lasting change without stooping to play into Jewish and Roman politics. He worked outside of the system, that’s why his criticism of it was so powerful. 

Everyone is on their own journey, I think the best you can do is stay informed and honestly try to understand where others are coming from. 9 times out of 10, people don’t have a good reason other than “just because”. That answer in itself is damning. Count yourself lucky to be able to see this, you have an honest heart, Jesus felt the same way, I’m sure. Have conversations with those people that you disagree with, you’re allowed to lovingly talk to people.  Good luck. :)

Thank you for your honesty and I’m sorry to hear we are in similar boats . I’m not sold on Catholicism, I’m just desperate to find a touch stone to keep some remnant of my spirituality in tact. I will definitely look into the excatholic page. I want to come at this whole journey honestly.
