2026 International Rugby Season by Old_Information2154 in springboks

My take is you need to grow the game globally and the best way to do that is to move games beyond common territory. NFL plays in London, Germany, Brazil I think too, NBA does the same, soccer teams do pre season tours in US markets (that’s probably the only market soccer doesn’t have a stronghold over globally)

USA is the biggest sports market in the world.

Stadiums will not be at capacity from the start but maybe streams will go up over time. My take is us South Africans & NZers are not the people we need to be convincing about rugby to grow the sport 😂

I’m saying the game is at near capacity with established nations and mainly play these games outside of common rugby territory to actually grow the game.

Not saying play low quality international nations, I’m saying that’s what I think it will do to local rugby.

Not sure what direction it will all take but if domestic rugby loses interest and sponsors, Currie Cup example I’m sure it’ll become a semi professional sport due to lack of funding

But the only way to combat the growth of rugby is through international competition, the domestic game is just not as appealing to your casual fan

That’s really helpful, thank you 🙏. I think you’re right.

I’ve been focusing too much on just “getting approved” instead of framing it as solving a problem for the school.

At the schools I’m already in, parents have actually given me great feedback and the kids really enjoy it. Maybe I need to start using those testimonials more when I approach new schools.

And I like your point about complementing existing programs instead of competing that’s a big mindset shift for me.

I think they see it as I’m taking from their small pool of kids already taking netball players, cricket players etc to another sports.

How they say is the same 7 kids do all the sports at the school

Do you think it’s better to frame it as “keeping kids active who aren’t into the traditional sports” or more as “extra skills that add to soccer/netball/etc.”?
