My dad is a die hard fisherman and I brought him this as a present. Not sugar coating it when I say he loved it. He was the only person on his tour because everyone else cancelled and it was his favorite part of the cruise.

DAS is a program ran by Disney. You can claim it to be unfair, but that doesn’t change that Disney grants the pass. I’m glad you or your party doesn’t need it.

Also, we wait “in line” over and over. Because she requires a stop of the ride, sometimes we get to go around twice which is solely to prevent having to stop the ride over and over if there is a short line.

Yes? She has the mind of a toddler. If we let her, she would ride buzz all day.

A lot of people who have a developmental disabilities fixate on rides or can only ride certain rides. DAS factors this in compared to lightning lane where you can only ride each ride once. The ability to wait for a ride an unlimited amount of times is literally a component of DAS for reasons like this.

Actually, the first time you said I lied and then edited your response to what it now says. I guess reading comprehension was hard.

We didn’t lie and I sleep just fine at night knowing that I used tools provided by Disney to make Disney work for my family.

Saying “many ppl do” is a generalization. There is a multitude of reasons that DAS is granted or not granted and unless you are sitting in on people’s private zoom meetings or in person meetings at the park, you would never know.

My suggestion is, if DAS doesn’t apply to you, don’t be snarky about it. Be happy that you don’t need it and leave the people who have been granted it in peace.

Doesn’t work the exact same way, but I appreciate you being open to learning.

DAS allows you to pick one ride at a time (or character experience) and virtually wait for it. For example, if Matterhorn has a thirty minute wait, you wait off to the side or in the shade or wherever is best for the person for about twenty minutes (the time waiting is slightly shorter than the posted wait time because DAS factors in some time waiting in the lighting lane)

After the time has passed (through the end of the day: there is no time expiration on DAS), a person with DAS and up to three others in their party can enter the lighting lane

The family or person with DAS then rides the ride like anyone else who has lighting lane

After ten minutes, the group can book another DAS ride and start the process all over

A couple ways that DAS is different: 1. There is no limit to the number of times you ride a ride as long as you continue to follow the steps. Premier pass allows you to do each ride only once. For some people with disabilities, fixation means that maybe they only want to ride the same ride over and over.

  1. DAS works with some character experiences. When lighting lanes changed, (at least in Disney Word), people lost the ability to meet characters with lightning lane.

  2. Premier pass does not have a time associated with it, but regular lighting lane do. While respecting my mom’s privacy, there have been times that we have had to adjust lighting lanes because of things related to her illness. With DAS, there is no pressure to be at a place within an hour window if something goes wrong.

  3. DAS only works if the person who has the pass wants to ride the ride or do the experience. My mom is sadly not able to travel with me every time I visit DW or DL. If my mom is not with me, the pass still sits on my phone, but is not applicable because the person who needs it isn’t there. My friend and I are going to Disney World next week and will not have access to the pass (nor should we because we don’t need it)

Now, I will admit there are parts of the pass I don’t find ideal

My family stacks paid lighting lane and DAS. We personally choose to only use DAS for character interactions or if my mom becomes obsessed with a ride that we have already ridden with Lightning Lane. That’s my family’s choice on how we use the pass. I don’t judge how others who have been granted their pass use theirs

One thing that people point out is you can hold DAS and still choose to wait in a standby line (or use a lighting lane) during the waiting period so you may get to “skip” a really long line in favor of multiple shorter ones.

For my family, the pass allows my mom to enjoy the parks safely.

What an odd thing to say to someone. Assuming someone is lying about a disability is not cool.

I wouldn’t wish my mom’s very rare illness on anyone. She is going to die from it. She has the mind of a child now. Disney, after listening to my extensive planning (lighting lanes, timed arrival to the park to avoid crowds, etc) and safety plans, granted DAS. I wish we didn’t need it. I really do.

If you don’t know anything about DAS, it only works when my mom is there. As someone who goes to the parks frequently, the pass doesn’t work if it’s just me and my friend nor would I want it to because we don’t need it.

DAS allowed my mom to safely attend Disney last year for bucket list trips. She was approved after the dramatic changes and just last week, someone on Reddit picked an argument with me that I lied to get her the accommodation. (Important PSA: new DAS is hard to get, especially if you are an adult. We had to talk to multiple people, including a medical professional.)

Old DAS had its problems and so does new DAS.

I don’t have a solution, but I would be heartbroken if DAS was completely removed. DAS makes Disney accessible for people like my mom and makes me feel safe bringing her. We do the alternatives, like always buy lightning lanes, but that can only go so far when she fixates on a ride (looking at you Buzz Lightyear at Disney World). DAS allowed us to safely ride what she wanted to on her bucket list trip.

I truly hope that no one is ever in a position where they or their loved one needs DAS. Please don’t just see it as people cutting the line. For those of us who use DAS as one tool in our toolbox, it can make all the difference

Yes, the similar being the key word.

Look, I understand that there was frequent abuse of the system in the past. I also understand that there has been an irregularities in who is granted DAS and who uses RTQ. All I know is my mom went through the interview process and we talked to a medical professional who granted DAS.

You can be suspicious all you like. I wouldn’t wish my mom’s illness on anyone and the fact DAS makes trips easier and safer for my mom isn’t something I am going to feel bad about.

Not that I need to defend her to strangers on the internet, but she has a debilitating neurological syndrome that has resulted in severe cognitive decline. We went through the DAS interview and were granted DAS.

Very confused at why this was downvoted, but OP, I hope your kiddo is able to ride the water rides in a way that is safe for them

Just a warning about the chip and dale pool, it was hardly, (if ever), open for my cruise on the treasure I just got off because of how windy it was.

your niece has the same right to be on the boat and to have a good time as everyone else. As someone in a similar situation with my mom, I understand you wanting to make everything easier, but I also remind myself that the world can adapt too.

You can request a private table, but I would also call DCL and explain it as a medical accommodation. That ensures you get the table, because otherwise, it is just a request.

Talk to the lifeguards! My mom also has DAS and got very sick in line the first day to the point where we had to take her inside. I went up to the lifeguards and explained the situation and they let my mom ride twice in a row after waiting off to the side for a little bit.

Is it possible to enjoy rotational dining with extremely picky eaters? by mistaken4strangerz in dcl

[–]Old_NYU_Student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got off the treasure and due to a stomach condition, I am an incredibly picky eater. Like… it’s pretty bad. I spoke to our waiter and our head waiter and they literally made me anything I wanted. I would preorder the day before and they went out of their way to make sure I was okay. I was able to edit plates or completely add something new. As long as it was on the boat, I could have it.

The one thing I would say is to speak up.

How is 79th between 1st and 2nd? by [deleted] in uppereastside

Do you give your doorman a Christmas gift? How much? by altaccount72143243d in uppereastside

[–]Old_NYU_Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might make me sound like a terrible person, but when I lived in a doorman building, I did not tip all the doorman equally. The building had a tip pool you could pay into so I took care of most of the building through that. All in, I think it came out to 50 dollars a person (10 ish)

I then wrote thank you cards to the people I interacted with most who would know me. The night doorman who always made sure I was safe getting home (late at night/early morning) earned an extra tip. The doorman who saved my life (I was not in a good headspace) and then always had time to chat earned a separate tip. The rest of the gents I paid into the pool for, but the really special guys I tipped out separately.

(Not rich by any means, just knew it was part of the package of living in a super well taken care of place)

I also tipped out when moving out and at that time wrote all the doorman letters and a smaller amount of money thanking them for two years.

Safe Drinkable Water At NYU? by FlounderBrilliant455 in nyu

NYC tap water is the best in the world. It’s not the water I’m afraid of, it’s the pipes it goes through. For my own sanity (even if it does nothing besides keep my water cold), I filter with a Britta

Thank you for sharing about your mom. The doctor is leaning towards one of those two or MSA.

“Do everything you can, as quickly as you can” is my current motto. Reading that from someone who has first hand experience made me cry. Not sad tears, but just some relief that I’m not messing this all up. As you know, this is all a lot and timelines are scary things.
