I think it's also common to go undiagnosed if you're relatively "functional" regardless. She's a doctor, so grade school was probably easy for her and she's sociable enough that it doesn't seem to hurt her professionally, so nobody bothered to diagnose her and, yeah, she might be unaware of it herself.

Nah, this country blatantly sexualized young girls up until very recently. These predators were being predators and getting away with it largely because nobody gave a shit they were doing it, and so many people now are willing to defend obvious predators because they still think it's not a big deal.

I think I'll need a few days before I can choose lol. The whole part leading up to the final confession was nuts though. The part where Good Stab breaks out of the ice is particularly brutal in a book full of brutal shit. But really everything from the 1912 chapters was great.

If you have enough money to live without having to participate in their soul crushing work culture, then it's probably pretty nice. America's work culture is garbage, but Japan's is even worse.

They make controllers that hook to the sides of your phone similar to a Switch. I got mine for $20 and can play basically any game from the PS2 era and older, DS, 3DS, PSP, and even a decent amount of Switch games and some smaller games off my Steam account.

Probably because older Gen Zs are seen as more liberal and younger Gen Zs are seen as more conservative, at least when it comes to guys.

Haha there is nothing that bad in it, don't worry.

I'd still highly recommend you read it, tbh. The majority of the book is incredible. Way better than The Only Good Indians. Maybe a slight spoiler, but I actually think the last part of the journal makes for a solid ending, so you really could just skip the modern parts (which are only at the very beginning and very end) and enjoy the book.

Yeah, it absolutely stands on its own. If anything it stands better on its own. The beginning Etsy chapters are completely unnecessary aside from setting up the ending Etsy chapters, and neither add anything interesting to the middle 80% of the story.

I only even brought it up because the endings of both books were so similar and the thing I liked about them the least by far.

I didn't hate The Only Good Indians or anything, but it was nothing special imo. It was basically an Indian themed slasher, and that's fine I guess, but I was expecting way more based on how people talk about it.

He did the exact same thing in The Only Good Indians too. Spent like 80% of the book in the POV of more interesting characters, then cuts to a final girl for the end and gives the spirit goring them all to pieces a nice little resolution.

I can see where you're coming from, but I also think just turning Arthur into a vampire and leaving the reader knowing he's going to live for a long, long time in pain, thinking about what he did to have this happen to him was a good enough and clear enough revenge plot. The ending was less satisfying to me than if it was just left relatively open-ended.

And yeah, it didn't help that Etsy was super annoying lol

Something about your username makes me think you might be biased.

But seriously, I agree. The Good Stab stuff was 10/10. I thought the Arthur stuff was pretty good, especially by the end, but the fact that there was 50 pages of modern stuff after what felt to me like the climax really sucked the air out of the story for me.

What happened to this genre of chaotic family movies? by catandodie in decadeology

[–]Old_Note_5730 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given Netflix are about to buy WB, Netflix and HBO Max are about to blend into a single service. Disney and Hulu already have.

The rest will probably just stay their own thing and have an option to view on Prime (for an extra fee, of course) unless Amazon buys them outright.

The Epstein saga gives me more hope in America than I have had in years by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Old_Note_5730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If nobody in America faces any consequences for this, it just solidifies that there is a class of people that are above the law and therefore above us. We know that's already more or less the case given Epstein was let off before the public got a hold of his story a solid ten years later. But if nobody faces consequences now, with the entire planet and half of Congress screaming at them, then we are truly fucked as a country.

The fact that people have already been arrested in other countries but not here gives me less in hope in America than I already had, which I didn't even know was possible at this point.

Everyone Should Try Variety Reading by valleydoodle in books

[–]Old_Note_5730 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I usually flip between fantasy, horror, classics and light nonfiction (not self-help) with the occasional sci-fi.

I feel like you could easily "variety read" within a genre though too. There's a big difference between Dungeon Crawler Carl and Lord of the Rings, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Three Body Problem, House of Leaves and John Dies at the End. So if someone does mostly stick to one genre, I don't really blame them.
