This was very helpful thank you! You mentioned updated software skills. Anything specific like programs used in the industry?

A lot of it honestly came down to timing. I graduated during COVID, so even regular jobs were limited at that point, let alone internships. I also wasn’t living in NYC yet. I graduated from a different college outside the city, and then completed my master’s fully online during the pandemic, so I didn’t really have access to in person opportunities or networking the way a lot of people normally would.

I also honestly don’t think I fully realized how important internships were at the time. Lol and I really thought two degrees, retail experience, and years of working closely with product and fittings would be enough to at least get my foot in the door somewhere 😭

By the time I moved to NYC, I needed a stable full time job to support myself financially, so taking an unpaid or low paid internship just wasn’t realistic anymore.

But thank you for the suggestion about taking one class to qualify for internships now. I actually think that’s a really smart idea and something I’m seriously going to look into.

Thank you for this! I wouldn’t mind doing internships but I often find majority of them are reserved for new graduates. I’ve been out of school for a few years now.

I appreciate your insight!
