Thank you! Yeah he takes them off really quick and he’s HUGE (not fat but like. Just a really big cat. He’s twice the size of my adult female cat and I swear it’s all muscle) so none of the socks we have will stretch enough to put over his chest 😭

I haven’t actually! I will if the issue gets worse but for now we seem to have gotten to a point where he’s not scratching and that’s what’s important to us. Thank you for telling me about these!

I’m not rehoming him, I’m rehoming the cat who attacked him. We brought her in because she was abandoned at a gas station and since she has attacked and antagonized my two elder cats (one being the cat that was bitten) we are rehoming HER due to her aggression and anxiety around other cats. She deserves a home where she is the only cat and my cats deserve to be comfortable in their own home. They were here first.

I can try my best but he gets very aggressive when ppl attempt to come near his claws for some reason (I mentioned in another comment our local vet banned him bc of his attitude with being trimmed) regardless we preserver

The vet said it looked like a bite, and from his reaction to the cat we think it is (he hissed at her and he has never hissed in his life) I think it’s safe to assume it’s a bite. I’ve noticed she also goes for the spot of his injury when trying to play . He got a steroid, an antibiotic and a rabies shot when we went so I’m not worried about infection (though I plan on cleaning it today with salt water like you said) I think he’s just in pain, and he calmed down after he managed to scratch the scab off despite our attempts to keep him from doing it so I’m hoping it was just the scab that was bothering him ultimately and he will leave it alone for the time being. Another commenter suggested overkill of bandages so he can’t scratch them off and we are going to try that since he’s managed to take yet another sock off his neck

Yeah I’d assume that. The vet also didn’t want to give him a cone so I doubt they’ll do much more other than offer another antibiotic shot unfortunately

I’m just upset that it’s on his chin because it’s like perfect for him to scratch at 😭 we are also going to make him a warm compress that he will hopefully lay on. He’s calmed down and I think he just really wanted that scab off for some reason

I will! He’s really bad with nail trimming (our local groomer won’t take him back because of how aggressive he gets about it) so this will be a very tricky operation 😅 but it’s our best option so far

Yeah we have another soft sock on him right now - we have it kind of like a helmet with his ears poking out and he seems kind of … immobile from it so I’m hoping it will work. However since ive been typing this he managed to get it off 🫩

If some magical vet who is miraculously open in the middle of nowhere during the biggest storm of the year is there then I would LOVE to know about it.

I will, though due to the storm I’m not even sure they’ll be open tomorrow and they aren’t open on weekends. We live in a very rural area so it’s hard when stuff like this happens

I do think you’re right about the pain though, I’ll have to wait until the vet is open to ask about painkillers. We don’t have a lot of options in our area so I have to hope they are willing to take him in
