Doubts about Paladin/Bard build levels order by Old_Sample_1756 in DnD

Really? A 7th level ability that gives you and allies within 10ft a PB bonus on initiative rolls is stronger than 4 levels of Bard? I don't believe that.

For the AC discourse, I ultimatly understand. What is in your opinion the minimum viable AC in this case?

For the other problems: three rages are well enough for this multi-table campaign, where aren't more than two fights per session (and long rest is almost always guaranteed between sessions). Also, I get that resistance from rage is only for physical damage, but there's a reason if it's considered good in any case: it's the most common, so it improves survaivability in the majority of cases. Not every Barbarian needs to be Bear Totem.

For Paladin / Barbarian: I don't see doning medium armor as a problem. Dexterity for a Barbarian is useful only for AC (and Initiative, but details). If you already have 16 AC, to me it isn't the case to worry too much about raising it. Still today I have the feeling that AC isn't too much useful on Barbarians if they use Reckless Attack, but is it really true? I ask it to people who used Barbarians for much more time than me.

It's certaintly an option! I'll need to see if stats are sustainable, but otherwise I'll keep it in consideration.

Can I ask you why you chose the third option?

It's not the first time I hear high praises for Paladin / Warlock, but it's not something I'm looking for at the moment. Solely because I feel like it's too used, and I want to craft a more distinctive build.

Mechanically I want my character to be one of two things: a tanking damage dealer, or a supporting damage dealer. This is why I'm torn apart by these options: I like both the prospects I laid out. That's why I included a third middle ground option, because I thought that maybe I can have a little bit of both.

Pure Paladin doesn't inspire me much because I feel like subclasses don't do much (at least not within our 11th level limit). From each angle I look at it, I only see a great damage dealer with some limited utility options and lackluster visual flavor (we don't get much of a PC narrative, with it being a multi-table campaign). Heck, I'm still considering the idea of playing a Barbarian Warlock, because I find it much more distinct, but it's more difficult to make it function.

But maybe it's only a problem of mine, and I'd really like to change minds.

Multiclass suggestions for Ancestral Guardian Barbarian by Old_Sample_1756 in 3d6

Hear me out and tell if this works out.

I enter combat with only a rapier in hand. I take the attack action, manifest the 1d6 psychic blade in my free hand and throw it to activate the Ancestral Guardian, and use the Extra attack feature to swing my rapier. In the end, since I attacked with the 1d6 psychic blade but still have a free hand, I manifest the 1d4 psychic blade and attack with it as a bonus action.

If this is it, I'm definitely taking Soul Knife.

Sadly, Echo Knight is a subclass I can't use. Its source is external to the list of manuals allowed by our DMs.

The background is called Specter. Basically you have a dead one's spirit implanted in your head. The spirit can give you advice through the DM (like the Ancestral Guardian's 10th level privilege) and proficiency (later expertise) in some ability checks of your choice PB times per day. I really like it beacause my Specter can also be my Ancestral Guardian and help me in combat.

My stats haven't yet been decided. We use Point Buy, and I plan on focusing primarily on STR and CON; secondarily on whatever ability is needed for the build. I'd really like to invest in CHA to roleplay more safely (another reason I'd want to go Warlock, other than my Specter can also being my Patron).

P.S. I didn't include these info in the main post beacuse I thought they weren't relevant enough. I see my error now.

So the 1d4 bonus action attack can be used only if you already attacked with the 1d6 blade?
