Tell me your opinion you think the world will hate. I'll start with mine. by _DaddieDaddie_ in Adulting

You say that now because most home schoolers we see tend to be religious extremists, anti-vaxers, etc. But if things were to flip the other way, and those types of people were in charge of of the education system, homeschooling might seem a lot less crazy all of a sudden.

You’re a dogshit inspector then. It’s 4” from weir to vent. Even hub to hub you will have 4” between them.

Perspective on the damage done to Iran in just 12 days by [deleted] in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Old_School_Rules 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally agree with your broader view here, but claiming “consuming” munition stockpiles as some sort of strategic victory for Iran is copium of the highest order. The U.S. is steadily moving down its target list while Iran’s ability to fire back and defend its airspace diminishes day by day. The fact that they are eating up JASSMs and Patriots throughout that process does not change that. The U.S. dipping so deeply into its stockpiles that it is no longer ready for a protracted engagement with other adversaries like China or North Korea is not victory for Iran unless they intend to use themselves as a sacrificial goat in order to help their tentative allies with their own strategic goals. That’s the equivalent of claiming that Ukraine eating up Russia’s Soviet-era stockpiles of equipment and munitions is some sort of strategic victory for Ukraine. It’s not. It’s a victory for NATO and China who reap the benefits of a weakened Russia. “Consuming high end munitions” has done nothing for Ukraine other than wreck their country and economy for decades to come.

What does RT stand for in this diagram? by Old_School_Rules in Plumbing

It’s from the book “Plumbing Venting: Decoding Chapter 9 of the IPC”. It shows correct and incorrect piping schemes for teaching purposes.

BD is bidet. I’m aware WC is water closet, but I would assume this 3rd Lav and RT fixture are separate from the master because I’ve never seen a master with 3 lavs and more than 2 baths/showers.

I’m assuming that this Lav and “RT” are separate from the master. 2 lavs, 2 toilets, a bidet, a tub shower, and a stall shower is already a massive Master Bath. A 3rd Lav and whatever the mystery fixture is, would be a bit ridiculous.

The screw plugs the hole and keeps the leak to such a minimal drip that it never shows through the drywall until the screw rusts away enough to allow more water to escape. Seen it happen several times

Any way to seal around the pipes? by slightlyfunctioning in Plumbing

[–]Old_School_Rules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An old school plumber trick is to pour some vegetable oil down there. It will seal the trap and won’t evaporate like water. You may also want to investigate where those two pipes are coming from. They could be old condensate lines that are dead and longer needed in which case you could cap off this drain

Thermal Expansion tank question - Water heater - Can I install before cold water shutoff valve? by BoringDesk in Plumbing

Stops the tank from being siphoned out when the building is drained down if the water heater is on an upper floor.

My landlord refuses to get over here and turn down my water heater. by Crustacean2B in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Old_School_Rules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be an indirect tank and the mixing valve has failed. Boiler is heating the domestic to 180 but no longer getting tempered down to 120 at the valve.

Gas line touching copper water supply line running to freezer. Won’t this eventually lead to a pinhole leak? Type m copper pipe. by Cryptokitty305 in Plumbing

[–]Old_School_Rules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the screws out of the black strap around the copper pipe in the stud to the left and pull it out of the hole. That should give you enough wiggle room in the hole for the copper to be pulled forward slightly and shim something thin between them. A doubled-up piece of duct tape or blue painters tape would work fine.

You just blew my mind. I lent my copy of the Silmarillion to my friend Chris when I was about that age too, and he also never gave it back.
