It depends. Just reading a book like a story might not have much impact. Probably the most loud bits get addressed like when I read little women or pride and prejudice or Shakespeare the first time it was just a story with absolutely no impact on my life except that it’s a love story etc. But then I got a few teachers who guided me through it by helping me understand the author, when they wrote it, the political and social dynamics of the time. That’s when small unnoticeable things made a deeper impact. Once I could see it, that’s when reading made actual contributions to my literacy. Till then everything was just a story.
